Tara A. Dowling joined Rocky Hill School as Director of College Counseling in July 2015. Her responsibilities include administering all aspects of the college search and admissions process, including educating students and parents about colleges; the college admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing; meeting with juniors and seniors to discuss the process and individual college choices; and managing visits to the Rocky Hill School campus by college admissions representatives.
Ms. Dowling has an impressive college counseling experience that spans more than two decades at several independent and international schools. She has been successful at assisting families in making the transition from high school to college, has provided guidance on thousands of student applications and essays, and has been instrumental in the enrollment of her students to hundreds of well-known and prestigious universities around the world.
Ms. Dowling has served as Director of College Counseling at both St. Stephen’s School in Bradenton, FL and Rowland Hall-St. Mark’s School in Salt Lake City, UT. Most recently, she has been an Associate Director of College Counseling at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, CT where in addition to counseling juniors and seniors, she developed technology for use in the College Counseling office, and worked closely with programming for international students and study abroad. Internationally, she worked at Üsküdar American Academy in Istanbul, Turkey and the Anglo-American School in Moscow, and has extensive consulting experience in China.
