Head of the Lower School
Walk into any Lower School classroom and your senses snap to attention. And why wouldn’t they? You are surrounded by the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures of children and faculty wondering, exploring, discovering, expressing, and celebrating. Throughout our Lower School, there is much to celebrate.
An optimal learning environment doesn’t separate academic learning from joyful learning. Joyful learning requires a sense of comfort and confidence with ourselves and the people, places, and things around us. Academics and social-emotional development are both significant parts of the whole that mark an authentic learning moment, which does not occur in isolation. So each day in our Lower School, our faculty, dedicated and passionate educators, pave the way for such authentic learning opportunities. In collaboration with their classroom and ‘Virtuoso’ teachers of science, art, music, physical education/health, Spanish, library skills and technology, our enthusiastic and engaged Lower School students enrich background knowledge, develop and refine skills, acquire and apply new knowledge, practice essential 21st Century skills, and most of all, enjoy learning using our School’s outdoor, waterfront, and woodlands classrooms.
So, accept our open invitation to walk into our Lower School classrooms and let your senses guide you. We guarantee it will be a rewarding and joyful experience...ask any of our students!
