SUMMER BY THE BAY

Rocky Hill Country Day School’s summer camps offer weeklong activities for children to learn and explore through a variety of experiences and opportunities. Kids explore in a safe and fun environment. Rocky Hill Country Day offers both full and half-day programs, allowing children the opportunity to choose a number of exciting offerings. Extended day options are available both before and after camp, giving families the flexibility to work around busy schedules. These camps are open to the public. Nike Girls Field Hockey

Nike Boys Lacrosse

Come join Barrington High School Boy’s Lacrosse Coach, Alex Champagne, along with East Greenwich Youth Lacrosse Coach Jared Zimmer, this summer at the Nike Lacrosse Camp. This is a complete skills day camp designed for youth boys lacrosse players from Kent County and beyond. In addition to stick skills, position work, and scrimmaging, this camp includes a specialized speed and agility program. The feature that separates this camp from the rest is our daily Pro-session where campers are exposed to the highest level of play.

Flare Girls Lacrosse

Continue your love of lax with some serious summer fun, as only the ladies of Flare can do! This unique lax experience is open to beginner and intermediate female players, grades 3-12. Stingray Soccer

At the Stingrays Soccer Camps, we motivate our campers so that they can learn more and get as much pleasure from soccer as possible. Critter Camp is a fun-filled, traditional day camp experience with morning activities in art, literature, imaginative play, and cooking. Each afternoon is spent at Rocky Hill Country Day School’s private lifeguarded beach, and through a rich selection of engaging and developmentally appropriate activities, each camper’s day is a balance of structured and child-initiated learning experiences.

Half-day Critter Camp is for little ones who aren’t quite ready for a full day of fun! This is a great way to make new friends and have an exciting summer experience. Choose between a morning or afternoon session.

Jr. Mariner Camp  |  Ages 6-7

Junior Mariner Camp is designed to engage 6 and 7-year-old campers with a wide variety of hands-on activities in sports, art, environmental science, Lego animation, and cooking. Jr. Mariners end their day at Rocky Hill School’s private, lifeguarded beach, where campers are closely supervised as they explore the ecologically rich and beautiful waterfront.

Cool Places with The Wyz | Off-Site

We will visit the coast and other unique locations in Rhode Island with RHCD's Mr. Wyzga. This camp offers children an opportunity to explore tidal pools full of marine animals and interesting seaweeds; venture through salt marshes with myriad waterfowl, fish, and crustaceans; and visit some of Rhode Island’s most amazing beaches. Our explorations will include a barrier beach, a dune environment, and a salt marsh.

Karr’s Outdoor Adventure Camp | Off-Site

If being outdoors exploring in the woods is your thing, then this camp is for you. Campers will travel each day with RHCD's Mr. Karr to different locations exploring different environments from mountains and streams to woods and ponds. Every step will be exciting!

Girls Leadership Collaborative

Ages 8-14  |  Full Day  |  7/27-7/31

Girls Leadership Collaborative (GLC) campers will take on outdoor challenges, ropes course elements (low and high), kayaking, swimming, youth designed games, art projects, role play, scavenger hunts, mindfulness practices, and so much more! Girls will develop their voice in an inclusive environment with other young leaders. Applying cutting edge research in the areas of adolescent development, adaptive leadership, experiential & inquiry-based learning, GLC participants will identify personal leadership attributes and responses. Girls will learn specific skills and language in order to develop collaborative communities and experience fulfilling relationships. As a strengths-based organization, all facilitators, teen mentors, and participants take the Stregntsh-Finder assessment tool. We use each individual's unique results to explore leadership and communication strategies and the relevant research, putting theory into practice. Participants will design, implement and assess team challenges using their strengths while celebrating and leveraging the strengths of others. Campers will emerge prepared to collaborate effectively in diverse groups, apply their passions to enhance their communities, and lead others in a variety of settings.

This camp will also offer highly differentiated experiences for new and returning leaders. By design, we offer two divisions, rising 3rd-5th grade division and a rising 6th-8th grade division. This allows for our signature groupings, which include Big Sister-Little Sister pairings between the 2 divisions, Buddy/Mirror Pairings within each division, and our leadership lab-group format, consisting of 10-12 girls within each division. Each Lab group will have a lead facilitator, as well as a high school teen facilitator for the critical mentoring and role-modeling. Returning campers will experience additional practice leading groups, challenges, and the most important element, the debrief of micro-sessions and fun activities designed for deeper learning and reflection. We welcome girls new and returning to another transformative summer with GLC. We look forward to seeing you in 2020!

Creative Computing

Get connected as we explore not just how to use computers, but how to make computers work for you. We will use the latest tools: Arduino (for building interactive devices) and Raspberry Pi (for learning about computers and coding) to design hands-on projects ranging from LED light shows to touchless musical instruments to wearable computers, all in the name of taking ideas and making them real. Participants have access to a comprehensive library of parts and equipment, and experienced instructors who can help them create the devices of their dreams.

Jr. Kayaking

Tinker with electronics while learning the basics of computer programming. We begin by experimenting with the fundamentals of electronics and circuitry, and progress to projects where our class of young makers will design their own interactive and programmable devices. Participants use the latest tools including Arduino (for building interactive devices) and Raspberry Pi (for learning about computers and coding) to experiment with LEDs, resistors, motors, and programming. Each day gives participants the chance to design a hands-on project with the guidance of a skilled instructor.

Glow-up Naturally

We will use all natural minerals, essential oils, honey, beeswax and other organics to create lip balms, lotions, soaps, and other care solutions. Beach Bums and Marine Explorers | Off-Site

Every beach in Rhode Island has a different vibe; let’s visit them together! We will check out crab-fishing and boogie boarding one day, then explore tidal pools full of marine animals and interesting seaweeds on another. We can build epic sandcastles on one of Rhode Island’s most pristine beaches, see real fossils in the sandstone cliffs, and maybe even ferry over to a secluded rocky shore and do a little seining. All explorations will be an awesome mix of education and relaxation.

Underwater Robotics

Ages 10-14  |  Full Day  |  7/6-7/17 (2 weeks)  |  $670

Together we will build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), before testing it and performing various underwater challenges from our own dock! This camp teaches basic “maker skills”, like soldering and hand tool use, as well as skills in ship and submarine design, and encourages students to explore naval architecture and marine and ocean engineering principles. Students learn important engineering and design skills and are exposed to all the exciting careers that are possible in naval architecture and naval, ocean, and marine engineering.

It's SEW Easy

For students with beginning to novice sewing experience, this camp will go over the basic use of the sewing machine, some new techniques, and hand sewing while working on a specialized project to take home. Time will also be spent working on simple stand-alone pieces that might use embroidery, macrame or cross-stitch. Students are required to bring in at least 1-1/2 yards of two different fabrics of their favorite pattern for projects.

This course introduces students to entry level carpentry skills through the construction of simple, but fun creations. Campers will be working each day in the commercial kitchen of Rocky Hill Country Day School alongside a professional chef and instructor. Daily lessons will focus on basic knife skills, best kitchen practices, and elevating our favorite entree dishes. Minecraft

In these sessions, students will learn how to play Minecraft and have fun exploring and building structures within this “sandbox” game. Campers will work individually and collaboratively on achieving set objectives. Instruction will be individualized, and plenty of time for open play will be included.

We will visit the coast and other unique locations in Rhode Island with RHCD's Mr. Wyzga. This camp offers children an opportunity to explore tidal pools full of marine animals and interesting seaweeds; venture through salt marshes with myriad waterfowl, fish, and crustaceans; and visit some of Rhode Island’s most amazing beaches. Our explorations will include a barrier beach, a dune environment, and a salt marsh.

Woodworking

This course introduces students to entry level carpentry skills through the construction of simple, but fun creations. Students will be instructed in the use of basic hand tools, measuring techniques and precise measuring. Video Game Design

This fun and educational week-long chess camp is open to players of all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Hands-on Electronics

Tinker with electronics while learning the basics of computer programming. We begin by experimenting with the fundamentals of electronics and circuitry, and progress to projects where our class of young makers will design their own interactive and programmable devices. Participants use the latest tools including Arduino (for building interactive devices) and Raspberry Pi (for learning about computers and coding) to experiment with LEDs, resistors, motors, and programming. Each day gives participants the chance to design a hands-on project with the guidance of a skilled instructor.

It's SEW Easy

For students with beginning to novice sewing experience, this camp will go over the basic use of the sewing machine, some new techniques, and hand sewing while working on a specialized project to take home. Every beach in Rhode Island has a different vibe; let’s visit them together! We will check out crab-fishing and boogie boarding one day, then explore tidal pools full of marine animals and interesting seaweeds on another. We can build epic sandcastles on one of Rhode Island’s most pristine beaches, see real fossils in the sandstone cliffs, and maybe even ferry over to a secluded rocky shore and do a little seining. All explorations will be an awesome mix of education and relaxation.

Glow-up Naturally

Girls Leadership Collaborative

Ages 8-14  |  Full Day  |  7/27-7/31

Girls Leadership Collaborative (GLC) campers will take on outdoor challenges, ropes course elements (low and high), kayaking, swimming, youth designed games, art projects, role play, scavenger hunts, mindfulness practices, and so much more! Girls will develop their voice in an inclusive environment with other young leaders. Applying cutting edge research in the areas of adolescent development, adaptive leadership, experiential & inquiry-based learning, GLC participants will identify personal leadership attributes and responses. Girls will learn specific skills and language in order to develop collaborative communities and experience fulfilling relationships. As a strengths-based organization, all facilitators, teen mentors, and participants take the Stregntsh-Finder assessment tool. We use each individual's unique results to explore leadership and communication strategies and the relevant research, putting theory into practice. Participants will design, implement and assess team challenges using their strengths while celebrating and leveraging the strengths of others. Campers will emerge prepared to collaborate effectively in diverse groups, apply their passions to enhance their communities, and lead others in a variety of settings.

This camp will also offer highly differentiated experiences for new and returning leaders. By design, we offer two divisions, rising 3rd-5th grade division and a rising 6th-8th grade division. This allows for our signature groupings, which include Big Sister-Little Sister pairings between the 2 divisions, Buddy/Mirror Pairings within each division, and our leadership lab-group format, consisting of 10-12 girls within each division. Each Lab group will have a lead facilitator, as well as a high school teen facilitator for the critical mentoring and role-modeling. Returning campers will experience additional practice leading groups, challenges, and the most important element, the debrief of micro-sessions and fun activities designed for deeper learning and reflection. We welcome girls new and returning to another transformative summer with GLC. We look forward to seeing you in 2020!

Counselor in Training

This program is for the child who would like to learn how to assist at RHCD Summer by the Bay Camp by leading and helping in all activities. Campers who complete this course typically go on to become a paid counselor when age-appropriate.

After Camp

Campers can spend a little more time after camp with a counselor in a supervised setting. Healthy snacks are offered.

Breakfast Club

Ages 3-13  |  7:45 - 9:00 a.m.  |  All Sessions  |  $75

Campers arrive as early as 7:45 a.m. to relax and have breakfast with their buddies before the camp day begins.  Breakfast offerings include waffles or pancakes, cereal, juice, and fruit.

Critter Camp

Ages 3-5  |  Full Day or 1/2 Day  |  All Sessions  |  $345/$210

Critter Camp is a fun-filled, traditional day camp experience with morning activities in art, literature, imaginative play, and cooking. Each afternoon is spent at Rocky Hill Country Day School’s private lifeguarded beach, and through a rich selection of engaging and developmentally appropriate activities, each camper’s day is a balance of structured and child-initiated learning experiences.

Half-day Critter Camp is a fun-filled, traditional day camp experience for little ones who aren’t quite ready for a full day of fun! This is a great way to make new friends and have an exciting summer experience. Choose between a morning or afternoon session.

Jr. Mariner Camp

Ages 6-7  |  Full Day  |  All Sessions  |  $335

Junior Mariners is designed to engage 6 and 7-year-old campers with a wide variety of hands-on activities in sports, art, environmental science, Lego animation, and cooking. Junior Mariners end their day at Rocky Hill Country Day School’s private, lifeguarded beach, where campers are closely supervised as they explore the ecologically rich and pristine waterfront.

Mariner Camp

Ages 8-9  |  Full Day  |  All Sessions  |  $335

Mariners campers will choose from various activities, including-but not limited to-arts, crafts, sports, musical, cooking, dance, water sport activities, gardening, and many more! Activities run in 45-60 minute blocks. Mariners will also spend time at RHCD’s private, lifeguarded beach, where campers are closely supervised as they explore the ecologically rich and pristine waterfront.

Minecraft

Ages 10-14  |  PM Session  |  8/3-8/7  |  $210

In these sessions, students will learn how to play Minecraft and have fun exploring and building structures within this “sandbox” game. Campers will work individually and collaboratively on achieving set objectives. Instruction will be individualized, and plenty of time for open play will be included.

Fairy Crafts

Ages 8-14  |  AM Session  |  8/3-8/7  |  $210

Go on a magical journey while creating your very own crown of herbs and flowers! Make a forest-fairy house using only natural materials (the preferred choice of outdoor fairies!) This unique experience will allow you to spend time outdoors and build amazing magical gems.

Super Scientists

Ages 8-11  |  PM Session  |  8/3-8/7  |  $210

Spark curiosity, explore the laws of nature and get a little messy! This hands-on science camp is the perfect way to inspire budding scientists to follow their passion (while keeping your own kitchen slime free!) Possible experiments include dry ice activities and making “elephant toothpaste.”

App Inventors

Ages 8-14  |  PM Session  |  8/3-8/7  |  $210

Want to know how the apps work on your phone or iPad? Or do you already have the next great app idea, and just need to know how to make it? In this no-experience-required course, we use MIT App Inventor software to make fun, creative apps for Android phones and tablets. Participants will learn both programming and design.

Creative Computing

Ages 10-14  |  AM Session  |  8/3-8/7  |  $210

Get connected as we explore not just how to use computers, but how to make computers work for you. We will use the latest tools: Arduino (for building interactive devices) and Raspberry Pi (for learning about computers and coding) to design hands-on projects ranging from LED light shows to touchless musical instruments to wearable computers, all in the name of taking ideas and making them real. Participants have access to a comprehensive library of parts and equipment, and experienced instructors who can help them create the devices of their dreams.

Flare Girls Lacrosse

Ages 8-18  |  8/3-8/7  |  9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  |  $325

Continue your love of lax with some serious summer fun, as only the ladies of Flare can do! This unique lax experience is open to beginner and intermediate female players, grades 3-12. We will mixing situational play, activities, and one of a kind drills and challenges to create what will be the best week of the summer. Daily water activities, including swimming and kayaking, will be supervised by certified lifeguards. Medical trainer on site daily.

Stingray Soccer

At the Stingrays Soccer Camps, we motivate our campers so that they can learn more and get as much pleasure from soccer as possible. Drop off/Pick Up
Please use the SECOND entrance (Chinook Road off Ives Road) when you come to camp each morning.

Traditional Camp Pick Up
For Critter Camp, Jr. Mariner & Mariner Camps only, please use the FIRST entrance (Wampanoag Road off Ives Road) when you come at the end of the day. We will meet you under the portico at 3:30pm. Half-day campers will also be picked up at the portico, ready at 12:00 p.m.
