Independent school boards are “trustees” of the institution, as they are entrusted to maintain the health of the school for future generations. Focused on governance instead of operations, the Trustees’ primary responsibilities are the hire and evaluation the Head of School and the stewardship of the School’s mission, long-range strategic planning, and financial resources.

Don McCaughey

PRESIDENT

Donald McCaughey is Executive Vice President and Treasurer of Gaston Capital Corporation, a boutique Private Equity acquisition company based in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Don has extensive experience in the public and private markets and currently sits on several Boards.  He received his BS in Management from Chapman College and his MBA from Pepperdine University.  He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and his daughter Francesca, ‘23 is a student at Rocky Hill Country Day.

Monica Iacono Boss ’91 joined the Rocky Hill School Board of Trustees in July 2015. Most recently, she worked at CVS Health as an Executive Advisor to the CHRO in Human Resources Strategy, supporting HR executives lead and managing key enterprise initiatives. Prior to working in HR Strategy, Monica implemented process improvements in Talent Acquisition and created a robust vendor management program in HR Shared Services. Before CVS Health, Monica was a Senior Vice President at Bank of America in Global HR Shared Services, and a consultant at Pile and Company in Boston and New York. She has volunteered at Rocky Hill School in various capacities including supporting the Head of School Search Committee, RHS 75th Gala, Alumni Board, Alumni Career Day, RHS Development, Business After Hours, and MS Field Hockey Team. Monica, her husband Geoff, and three daughters Charlotte ’22, Sydney ’23, and Morgan ’26, reside in Narragansett.

Dr. JUSTINE JOHNSON

Justine Johnson, DVM, DACVECC obtained her B.S. and veterinary degree from Cornell University. She then completed an internship and a residency at Tufts University to become board-certified in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care. Justine is co-owner, with her husband Gary Block, of Ocean State Veterinary Specialists, the only 24-hour emergency and specialty veterinary hospital in Rhode Island. Justine and Gary have two children at Rocky Hill School, Elsa ’20 and Derek ’23. Both have attended since nursery school and have loved their experience! Justine’s extended family includes horses, goats, cats, dogs, tortoises, and honeybees. Other interests include anything outdoors and a capella singing with Rocky Hill School parents and faculty.

Steve, a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, is Founder, President CEO of Mutual Property Associates. He established a multi-faceted strategic commercial real estate development firm specializing in acquiring, improving, holding and managing commercial properties. Prior to that, he was the founder and president of New England Lawn Sprinkler Company. Steve is a trustee and treasurer of Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island; and is a member of the Parents Council at Elon University in North Carolina.

Steve and his wife Patricia are the parents of three daughters who attended Rocky Hill School.

Dr. ELIZABETH ALLEN

Dr. Elizabeth Allen, her husband Dr. Peter Pogacar, and her three children Jacob ’19, Benjamin ’20, and Jillian ’25 joined the Rocky Hill School community in 2013. Elizabeth has been a class rep for the Parent Teacher League and served two years as the chair of the Fall Classic. Her previous board experience includes three years on the governing council of the Compass School in Kingston, RI from 2011–2014, initially as the Treasurer, and ultimately as the President of the Board. Elizabeth attended Cornell University, graduating with a B.S. in Cognitive Development. Following graduation, she worked in the field of children’s museum design at Jane Clark Chermayeff Associates. There she was involved in the development of a science playground at the New York Hall of Science, as well as an environmental exhibit, Ojo Isla!, in collaboration with the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico in San Juan. Elizabeth later earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in cognitive psychology, with a developmental focus, from New York University. During graduate school, she spent two years as a fellow at Harvard University’s laboratory for developmental studies.

Jason has been an active member of the Rocky Hill community for many years.  His daughters attend the Upper School at Rocky Hill and are active in many school activities.

 

MITCH EDWARDS

.

Mitchell Edwards, Partner at Hinckley, Allen & Snyder, LLP, focuses his practice on product liability and toxic tort litigation, as well as commercial, real estate and health care litigation. He represents manufacturers and distributors in product liability and toxic tort actions including product defect, pharmaceutical, asbestos, silica and catalyst cases. Mitchell earned a JD from Cornell Law School in 1999 where he was the managing editor of the Cornell International Law Journal. He earned a BA from SUNY Binghamton where he graduated summa cum laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Beyond his volunteer commitment to Rocky Hill School, Mitchell is involved with the Junior Achievement of Rhode Island and is chair of the Pro Bono Committee at Hinckley, Allen & Snyder.

LAURI FINE

Lauri is a graduate of Brandeis University and the University of Miami School of Law. Prior to opening her own law practice concentrating in Family Law, Lauri worked for Kirshenbaum Law Associates in Warwick. She is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, a certified divorce mediator and a certified RI Family Court Guardian Ad Litem. Lauri and her husband Keith have been a part of the RHCD community since 2013. Their daughter, Maddie ‘18, is currently enrolled in college in Chicago and their son, Bennett ‘22, has been at Rocky Hill since 6th grade. Prior to sitting on the RHCD Board, Lauri was a member of the Board of Trustees for Temple Sinai in Cranston and a member of the RHCD Parent Teacher League, serving as both class representative and Secretary of the Executive Board for two terms. She also volunterred on the RHCD fundraisers – the Fall Classic and spring Gala – for several years. Additionally, Lauri and her family are strong supporters of the arts, including theater, at RHCD as well as the Mariner’s sports program – attending and cheering from the sidelines and audience.

ERICA GREGG

Erica Gregg, Esq., along with her husband, Joe Tamburini, and their children Andrew ’22 and Cecelia ’25, joined the Rocky Hill School community in 2012. Erica has been a class representative for the Parent Teacher League and has served as a co-chair for the Lower School Spring Family Dance and for the RHS Gala. Her previous board experience includes five years on the Board of Directors of Child & Family of Newport County, where she twice co-chaired the annual “Taste of Newport” fundraising event, as well as membership on the Boards of Directors of the Jamestown Historical Society and the Scituate Public Library.

Originally from Connecticut, Erica received her B.A. from Colby College (Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude), and her J.D. from The University of Connecticut School of Law. As a business and transactional attorney practicing in the areas of corporate law and commercial finance, Erica has worked in both private practice for the law firms of Reid and Riege, P.C. in Hartford, CT and Hinckley Allen & Snyder LLP in Providence, as well as in-house as Division Counsel and Assistant Secretary for Textron Financial Corporation in Providence. She currently performs project work as a contract attorney and holds a Rhode Island Real Estate Broker’s license.

Erica is a member of the American Bar Association, the Rhode Island Bar Association, the National Association of Realtors, the Rhode Island Association of Realtors, and Historic New England. She enjoys traveling, collecting art and antiques, and skiing in the mountains of Maine with her family. When not working or volunteering, she can likely be found on Rocky Hill’s athletic fields watching her Andrew compete or at the horse barn watching Cecelia ride.

ALEX MILLARD

Alex Millard is the father of Abigail ’27 and Will ’30, and the husband of Jill ’94, who is the Lower School’s PTL representative. Alex joined Rocky Hill School’s Board of Trustees in 2017 and serves on the Executive, Finance, and Facilities & Grounds committees. Originally from New York City, Alex attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he and Jill met. After 15 years in Philadelphia, they relocated to Jill’s birthplace of Rhode Island in 2009.

Alex has more than 20 years of experience in the energy efficiency industry. In 2009, he joined NORESCO, which designs and builds large-scale energy efficiency projects that self-fund through their cost savings. As Business Development Manager, Alex oversees the acquisition of new contracts. Prior to NORESCO, Alex worked for several small businesses in Philadelphia, including his own company that specialized in optimizing commercial and industrial building energy performance.

Alex is the Chair of the FAO Schwarz Family Foundation, a non-profit that serves the needs of young people in the areas of early childhood development, literacy, and nutrition. The great-great-grandson of the toy store’s founder, Alex oversees the Foundation’s operations and directs its unique two-year fellowship program that blends direct service and special project work for recent college graduates.

JOAN OSOWA

Joan’s ties with Rocky Hill School date back to 1987 when she was a first grade classroom teacher and include 20 years as Head of Lower School. She has a M.Ed in Early Childhood Education from Rhode Island College and a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Rhode Island.

Joan is a Master Gardener and a member of the South County Garden Club. She is a member of the Handicraft Club in Providence and a former president of the East Greenwich Library Board of Trustees. Joan’s interests include photography, reading, skiing, cooking and golf.
