MARIA CHARBONNEAU DANCKERT '12

2019–2021 Alumni Board President

Welcome alumni! I am proud to be part of this community and honored to be your Alumni Association President.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I was given to learn and grow while at Rocky Hill Country Day and fondly recall my time as a student. RHCD continues to thrive—I am continually impressed by the accomplishments of the students and alumni alike.

I believe RHCD gave us, the alumni, what we needed to succeed in life. Now is the time for us to honor yesterday by giving back today with our gifts of talent, time, and treasure. Please join me in getting involved–we’d love to have you back at “The Hill”!

With warm regards,
Maria

CAMPUS BRICK CAMPAIGN

Purchasing an inscribed brick on campus is a timeless way to honor a member of the Rocky Hill Country Day community, past or present. Bricks are installed each fall and spring. All bricks, except Senior Class bricks, are installed in the Garden Classroom Brickwalk.

Brick proceeds support the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

Please add the inscription for the brick under the “Additional Notes” field. Each brick is limited to three lines with a maximum of 14 characters per line. Senior Bricks include the student’s name and graduation year only.

If you have any questions, please contact Mike Lawson, Database and Facilities Manager, x171.

WAYS TO GIVE

The Rocky Hill Fund is the annual campaign that directly supports the School’s operating budget. As is the case in independent schools, funding is needed above and beyond tuition to support our robust student experience. Gifts to the Rocky Hill Fund make an immediate and positive impact by supporting our academic programs, extracurricular activities, 84-acre campus, dedicated faculty, and much more.

  • The Rocky Hill Country Day School Alumni Association established a scholarship award to be given annually to a child or grandchild of an alumnus/alumna. The recipient will best embody the qualities of an RHCD student through outstanding scholarship, sportsmanship, and/or citizenship. Recipients demonstrate a financial need as stipulated by the School’s financial aid policies and procedures.
  • Funds are raised for this award primarily through our Brick Campaign and the Alumni Reunion Silent Auction although gifts may be contributed outright to the fund at any time. The current fund stands at approximately $20,000 and may be endowed once it reaches $25,000. Three students have received the $1,000 since it’s inception.

Thank you to all who have contributed to the fund and fundraising efforts and made a difference for our legacy students!  If you would like to make a difference by giving to the Alumni Scholarship Fund please contact Missy Walker at 401.884.9070, ext 296.

HOPELANDS LEGACY CIRCLE

  • Rocky Hill Country Day continues to grow and flourish thanks in part to the goodwill of others, and planned gifts can have a lasting impact on the School.  To learn, more visit our Planned Giving page.

ALUMNI EVENTS

ALUMNI REUNION
Due to the current COVID circumstances, we will plan to hold our next in-person Alumni Reunion in the Fall of 2021. We hope to hold smaller events this year as well as virtual events.

To learn more, get involved, or help plan something for your class, please email Missy Walker, mwalker@rockyhill.org.

Thank you for understanding!
MIXOLOGY CLASS
Let's raise a glass to a festive Virtual Alumni & Friends Mixology Class held on Saturday, September 26th! Fun was had by all as guests crafted two fall cocktails in a class led by Samantha at The Savory Grape. Attendees agreed to Apple Pumpkin Cider Moscow Mule would be a great cocktail (or mocktail) to serve at Alumni Reunion next Fall.
SPRING HAPPY HOUR
Our inaugural Virtual Alumni Happy Hour on Thursday, May 14th was a big success! Approximately 20 alumni spanning 1973 to 2012 from all over the country (RI, MA, NJ, FL, WI, CA) and as well as Mexico hopped on--and off--the call to chat, reminisce, hear updates from Diane Rich, and even play a little Rocky Hill Trivia (do you know how many buildings are on campus or who the first Head was?). Thank you to Trixie Webber Dumas '81, Sam Dumas '79 and family for coming up with the fun questions and to Lauren Friedman Koblick '02 for spearheading the event and the photos. We all agreed there should be another one: stay tuned!
BAYBERRY BEER HALL
Alumni and friends gathered at Bayberry Beer Hall in Providence last summer to catch up and share a few laughs and stories over drinks and snacks.
HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Our Home for the Holidays Social at Apponaug Brewing Company brought together alumni, faculty, and friends to share some cheer during the holiday season this past December 27, 2019.
CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2020!

OUTSTANDING ALUMNI AWARDS

The Rocky Hill Country Day School Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award is presented to alumni who have distinguished themselves both within the School community and the world as a whole. This award recognizes an individual who has made a positive impact on society and brought honor to RHCD.

Rocky Hill Country Day School is thrilled to recognize Erin Clement ‘84 as the 2020 Outstanding Alumni Award Recipient.

Erin was nominated by Kristin Walberg Urbach ’87 and voted on by the Alumni Association Board in June. As Kristin shared, “Erin is a shining example of an outstanding RHCD alumna as she’s smart, witty, compassionate, and a dear friend of the School and the community. While Erin’s career has been successful, her dedication to her family and friends are equally noteworthy.”

Erin celebrated her 35th reunion at RHCD last June and has served as class scribe since her graduation in 1984. She was a member of the School’s 2017 “Sail into Summer” Committee, enjoys keeping her classmates connected as class scribe, and is loyal supporter of the Rocky Hill Fund. Her longtime involvement with the school stems from the strong connections she made with classmates and faculty while she was a student.

Erin attended Simmons College, earning a BA in Communications and soon after, began her career at Fidelity Investments which has spanned an impressive thirty years.  Erin has worked

primarily in marketing and communications, rising to Director of Local Market Development in 2006 and then in 2016 to her current role as Marketing Channels Director. She manages the Investor Center Seminar Program and Branch Development activities. She has been recognized throughout her career receiving the Excellence in Action Award (2), Shining Star Award, and the Stellar Service Leader Award. In addition to her volunteerism at RHCD, Erin is a sustainer member of the Junior League of Boston and mentored at the Charlestown Boys and Girls Club, and Rhode Island Special Olympics.

“Erin leads by example and anyone who follows her trail will learn the importance of making each day bright by taking the time to enjoy things that make you happy like humor, music, friends, and family,” according to Kristin.

The School is thrilled to recognize Erin in this meaningful way and look forward to celebrating her soon. Details to follow.

My name is Sarah Knowles and I am a graduate of the Class of 2008 and the secretary of the Rocky Hill Alumni Association. On behalf of the Alumni Board, I want to officially welcome you all as the newest members of our alumni community.

I am so proud to be a member of the Rocky Hill Country Day community and witness the strength and perseverance of the faculty and students this spring, especially the perseverance of the senior class. You have worked so hard this year and it does not go unnoticed.

Being an alumnus/a of Rocky Hill is being a part of a larger community, a community that is here to support you through your endeavors and one that supports the school in its efforts to continue teaching students. We hope that you will use our alumni base as a resource. From personal experience, I was able to secure two college internships by utilizing connections with the Rocky Hill Alumni Office. Let us support you and think about ways you can support your alma mater.

Please stay in touch and involved with the school–come back to campus during your college breaks, remain in contact with your classmates, stay connected on social media, and share your good news with the Alumni Office at alumni@rockyhill.org.

As a graduation gift, please enjoy this blanket from the Alumni Association. We hope you’ll bring with you to college and be reminded of your alma mater.

The knowledge and skills you have gained while at Rocky Hill have made you strong students of character who are ready to make a difference in the world. You have left a great legacy for classes to follow. Congratulations Class of 2020. Your next chapter is going to be amazing!
