Alicia Cook '96 was one of the event organizers for the 2nd Annual Walk to STOP Bullying in RI on May 5 at Roger Williams Park Carousel in Providence and she was recognized with an award for her commitment to this important issue.
Jackson Hawkins '17 has been promoted to the rank of Star Scout. He is now working toward the rank of Life Scout and is a member of Boy Scout Troop 1 in Jamestown.
Robert Petteruti '13 received General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo’s Young Leader Award.
Alan Blasdell '13 passed his Eagle Board of Review and is now an Eagle Scout for Troop 1 Saunderstown.
Alyssa Grayson '19 recently had a successful presentation for the RI Fish & Wildlife Service to 30 people. She also received six blue ribbons, one best in show and one third place ribbon at a fine arts fair.

Alisha Newton '03 modeled Nicole Lebreux Original Apparel spring fashions and spoke about environmentally responsible fashion on Fox Providence's The Rhode Show.
Abby Siegel '17 received an honorable mention for her essay submission to the 2012 Letters About Literature contest, a national reading promotion program of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. This year, the program received 59,000 entries nationally and Abby received one of two honorable mentions in her age group in the state of RI.
The Math Team finished fourth at the RI Math League state tournament last week. Steven Petteruti '12 finished the season tied for first place among seniors in the state, and in second place overall statewide.
Out of 45 Rocky Hill Middle and Upper School students who took the National Latin Exam, 25 received accolades.

Jason DeGerlia '19 placed in all four of his events in the Northeast Family Martial Arts Interschool Competition. He took third in weapons and sparing and first in the forms and flying kick contest.
Bianca Ursillo '06 was a Fusion Film Festival finalist for her graduate feature screenplay I'll Tell You No Lies. Fusion Film Festival is a student run festival featuring works from New York University's top female filmmakers, writers, and directors with collaborations from both genders.
T.J. Carley '16, of Troop 2 East Greenwich, was a 2012 Pope Pius XII Emblem recipient on March 11 at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin presented this award.
Jessilyn Ring '15, won first place in the senior level creative communication category of the state-level 4H Public Speaking Contest on March 3 at the University of Rhode Island.
Troy Pierre-Louis '13 earned SENE All-League Honorable Mention for boys' varsity basketball.

Alyssa Grayson '19, received the Humane Society of the United States’ Kind Kid Award, 2012.
Sam Hallowell '12 was selected by his coaches as the 2012 Hobie Baker Award recipient. The award is given out at a Providence Bruins game and recognizes an outgoing senior on a hockey team who demonstrates strong character, leadership, and academics.
Oliver McMahon '19 competed against the top 35 climbers in his age group at the USA Climbing National Championships in Colorado Springs.

The School collected more than 14 tons of electronics during its e-Waste recycling drive.
Lower School students raised more than $2,800 for the annual Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser to benefit the American Heart Association.
Jessilyn Ring '15 competed in the district level 4-H public speaking competition in the category of Creative Communications. She was awarded a blue ribbon and selected to participate at the state-level competition in early March at the University of Rhode Island.

Varsity Life for her community service work.
Anessa Petteruti '17 correctly spelled the word "azure" to edge out opponents from Pennfield, St. Michael's, Wheeler and others to win the Rhode Island Independent School Spelling Bee.
Dylan Latham '18 qualified for the 12 and Under New England Swim Club Championships for the Rams Swim Club, a USA swim team based out of URI and St. George's.
The Math Team placed second in the third meet of the year. It was ranked No. 3 in Rhode Island for the year. Steven Petteruti '12 was the fourth highest individual scorer and the second highest in his grade level for the year.
The boys' varsity basketball team advanced to the SENE playoffs.
Julia Janikies '16, Joe Voccola '18, Sabrina Dumas '16, Allison DeGerlia '16 and Lauren Silva '16 participated in the National Young Leaders State Conference (NYLSC). This intensive four-day program, for highly motivated students, focuses on core leadership power tools that provide scholars with critical skills essential for success in life.
Rocky Hill parents Justine Johnson, Gary Block and Tiffany Tapp were recognized as "Top Vets 2012" by Rhode Island Monthly magazine.
The Certamen Team swept the first two spots at the Boston College High School competition. Steven Petteruti '12, Shane Woolley '15, and Amanda Siegel '15 took first, while Brady Dill '15, Ray Mancini '15 and Christopher Ratigan '14 took second.
Kyla Teeters '14 competed in the U16 Disney Field Hockey Showcase.
Seniors Shannon O'Rourke, TJ Thran, Abby Moylan, Nick Parker, Dane Ardente, and Sam Hallowell placed ninth in the Quahog Bowl, the RI/CT regional competition of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl.
Nick Charbonneau '13 competed against 22 other local high school students in the Rhode Island Shakespeare Competition.
Jake Soares '19 earned his first-degree black belt.
Thanks to a generous donation from trustee Chuck Iacono '99, the Lower School built a 12-foot by 6-foot Lego Learning Wall, providing an engaging and multisensory tool for teaching.
The School kicked off its
Distinguished Scholar Lecture Series with Joachim Krueger, professor of psychology at Brown University and an expert on self-perception and intergroup relations.

Giles Van Gruisen '12 took second place and Alex Antonelli '13 took third in the Emerging Artist Show, an exhibition of regional high school art at the Portsmouth Arts Guild.
Katie Meringolo '12 and her father spent a week of Winter Break volunteering at the New Life Children's Home in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Will Pontarelli '12, along with 15 young missionaries and five adults from St. Thomas More Parish, spent Thanksgiving break volunteering at the Hogar Immanuel orphanage in the Dominican Republic.
The boys' varsity basketball team won 10 straight to begin the season with a 10-1 record.
Anna Yamada '13 and Seth Curtis '12 competed in the USASA-sanctioned Tucker's Boardercross for Cancer event at Sugarloaf. Both placed in the top three of their respective races. Anna was ranked No. 1 in the country for her age group in boardercross.
The Math Team was ranked third in Rhode Island, Steven Petteruti '12 and Wenbo Sun '14 were among the grade-level leaders.
Gary Jobson of Sailing World named Bradley Adam '13 to the 2012 Jobson Junior All-Star sailing team.
Zach Jennings '16, an avid flyer, wrote a featured article for the January 2012 issue of Hang Gliding & Paragliding magazine.
Zeke Farrell '12 was named a 2011 Providence Journal All-State Fall Independent Star.

Rocky Hill beat Block Island, Newman School and St. Andrew's School to capture the 7th Annual Boys' Varsity Basketball Mariner Classic Tournament championship.
As part of an
all-school community service project, hundreds of "
Mariner Boxes" were filled with presents and goods for the less fortunate and were donated to Communities for People.
Rocky Hill's Math Team was ranked first in the West Bay Division of the Rhode Island Mathematics League and second in the state. Steven Petteruti '12 had missed only two points in RIML meets and was perfect through three meets of the New England Mathematics League.
Abby Siegel '17, Amanda Siegel '15, Lauren Silva '16 and Isaac Spivack '17 were accepted to the Rhode Island Junior Division All-State Band for the 2011-12 year.
Tingying Su '12 participated in the 2011 Fall Cyber Foundation National Competition.

After carefully evaluating student, faculty and parent feedback and undertaking a significant amount of research at peer schools, Rocky Hill announced the hiring of Flik Independent School Dining as its new food service provider.
The Mock Trial team won its first case in the preliminary rounds of the 28th annual Rhode Island Mock Trial Tournament.
Amanda Siegel '15 performed in the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra's (RIPYO) concert held in Roberts Hall at Rhode Island College. Amanda plays flute in the RIPYO Repertory Orchestra and made All State, ranked No. 1 in the junior division (Grades 7-9).
Digital Photography teacher Ruth Clegg was selected to the Warwick Museum of Art's 25th RI Open Juried Art Competition.
LS art teacher Trixie Dumas, a fourth degree black belt in Shaolin Kempo Karate, competed in the World Kickboxing Championships in Ireland.
Upper School math teacher Terry Coes was a featured speaker at the annual conference of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in New England.
The Providence Journal named Zeke Farrell '12 as athlete of the week.
Director of Technology Tom Adams was elected to the Board of the Rhode Island affiliate of the International Society for Technology in Education (RISTE).
Freshmen Shane Woolley, Brady Dill, Ray Mancini and Amanda Siegel, finished second in their subgroup and fourth overall at the first certamen competition of the year at Roxbury Latin School.
Several field hockey players were recognized at the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Field Hockey Banquet. Maria Charbonneau '12 and Abby Moylan '12 were selected to the All Academic Team. Abby was also selected to the 2nd Team All Division. Bren Miller '15 made the All Rookie Team and Courtney Harrington '13 received Honorable Mention All Division.
Upper School math teacher Terry Coes was invited to attend a meeting of The National Alliance of Presidential Awardees in Mathematics and Science Teaching at the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C.
James Frost ’17, Read Frost ’15, Shane Woolley ’15, Michael Santos ’18, Amanda Siegel ’15 and Abigail Siegel '17 were honored by The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY). Anessa Petteruti '17 and Sabrina Dumas '16 also became eligible for CTY by scoring at or above the 95 percentile on a nationally normed test.

The boys' and girls' varsity soccer teams advanced to the SENE playoffs.
Rocky Hill's Math Team won their first RI math league competition by (9+2i)(9-2i) points. Steve Petteruti '12 had a perfect score.
The following students were nominated for the National Junior Classical League Latin Honor Society: Nick Charboneau '13, Maria Charbonneau '12, Ellen Hyde '13, Victoria Kue '12, Steven Petteruti '12, Danielle Trombley '13 and Stephanie Mattioli '11.
Jessilyn Ring '15 participated as a Rhode Island delegate in the New England 4H Dog Program at The Eastern States Exposition (The Big E) in Springfield, MA. Jessi's Quiz bowl team came in second place and, along with her dog Twilight, earned second place in showmanship and third place in the obedience competitions.
TJ Carley '16 completed the Ordeal process of the Order of the Arrow - Scouting's National Honor Society.
32 Rocky Hill students and coaches attended High School Night at Gillette Stadium.
The varsity field hockey team hosted a Play for the Cure game, raising funds and spreading awareness for breast cancer.
Rocky Hill welcomed the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Visiting Committee, chaired by Ms. Anne Reenstierna, Head of Brimmer and May School. The NEASC is a peer accreditation association with the purposes of school improvement and quality assurance.
Middle School students joined more than 2 million others across the country to cross social and racial boundaries as part of Mix It Up at Lunch Day, an event designed to foster respect and understanding in schools.

The School is one of the first in Rhode Island to adopt a single-stream recycling program, which means that all recyclables go into one container and we are able to recycle plastics 1-7.
Director of Admissions, Cathy Washburn, taught at the SSATB Admission Training Institute in Phoenix.
Amanda Siegel '15 was accepted into the RI Philharmonic Music School's Youth Repertory Orchestra on flute.
Anessa Petteruti '17 won the RI USTA tennis tournament (Centre Court in East Providence) for girls U12.
The Lower School implemented Symphony Math and Lexia Reading Programs, which provide interactive activities that improve foundational reading and mathematics skills. Teachers are provided with immediate norm-referenced student data which is instrumental in gauging student progress and differentiating instruction within the classroom.
The Middle School field hockey program returned from a long hiatus.
The School hosted its 13th Annual Fall Classic, a golf and tennis tournament as well as a dinner auction fundraising event.

he School held an installation ceremony for new Head of School Jonathan M. Schoenwald, Ph. D. This was truly a historic event, as Schoenwald is only the eighth head of school in Rocky Hill’s 77-year history.
Will Pontarelli '12 is the youngest participant ever to study at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. Will was asked by North Carolina Public Radio to help produce a story about the Hurricane of 1938 and a Rhode Island woman who survived the storm on a sailboat.
TJ Carley '16 earned Life Scout Rank, the penultimate rank of the boy scouts.
Alyssa Grayson '19 was spotlighted by the
Wolf Conservation Center. She is the youngest citizen scientist working on the national wildlife refuges in Rhode Island.
