24:34. The future for boys cross country looks good with two
novice varsity runners placing in the middle of the pack.
Once again, the top female
runner for Rocky Hill was freshman, Johanna Lynch ,
time of 30:41. Johanna finished 36th of 80 runners, followed
by Anthea Weixel in 41st place. Senior Jordana
De La Cruz completed her first ever cross country race.

Coed Cross Country @ Williams
Nine varsity cross country
runners ran a beautiful but challenging (college level) course this
past Wednesday at Connecticut College. The nine that finished
are to be congratulated on their perseverance through the biggest
challenge they have had thus far this year - lots of hills and rough
terrain.
Matthew Munoz completed his
first varsity cross country meet for Rocky Hill School.
Dennis Wu was the top male
Rocky Hill runner, placing 21st in a field of 55 contestants overall,
with a time of 25:49. He placed in 21st in a field of 43 boys.
Johanna Lynch was the first
Rocky Hill female to finish the course with a time of 29:47, placing
42nd in the field of 55 runners. She placed 3rd in a field of 12
girls.
The winning time on the
race was 19:47.
10-24-07
Coed Cross Country @ Wheeler
The conditions were perfect
today for running at the Wheeler School Farm in Seekonk. Competitor
schools were Wheeler, Lincoln School, and Hyde School. The consistent
training of the six Rocky Hill School runners who completed the
course paid off with personal best race times for all.
The top female finisher for
Rocky Hill School in the race was freshman Johanna Lynch with her
personal best time of 26:10. This time is indicative of an
average race pace of 8:26 – improving on Johanna's first race of
the season by more than 3 minutes or losing a full minute off her
pace (min/mile). Johanna placed 5th of 16 female runners in
the meet.
Top male finisher for Rocky
Hill School in the race was junior John Gibbons with his personal
best time of 22:45, a race pace of 7:20. His pace is improved
by 12 seconds per mile or a 1:23 over the 3.1 mile course.
John placed 20th of 35 runners.
Jacqueline Weixel had her
personal best time of 29.18 on the 5K course, or improving by almost
a full minute on her previous personal best.
In just his 2nd cross country
meet this season, sophomore Matthew Munoz ran a 23:53, improving
on his first race by more than 4.5 minutes. This is an improved
pace by 1:28!
Freshman Philip Gyampo and
sophomore Daniel Ratigan ran their personal bests at 23:17 and 23:25
respectively.
The improvement each student
athlete experienced was a wonderful accomplishment to witness.
11-2-07
SENE Cross Country Championship Meet @ Marionapolis
Race conditions were perfect
again. All nine students who ran either accomplished their personal
records for the season at this race, or improved over the last time
they raced this course in September.
Girls:
Johanna Lynch was the top
Rocky Hill finisher placing 13th in a field of 48 girls. She earned
a medal at the closing ceremony. Johanna ran the course in 26:02,
just 2 seconds off her personal record, but 6 minutes and 4 seconds
faster than her first race on the course early in the season!
Seniors Jacqueline Weixel
and Jordan De La Cruz ran their last race with tremendous effort
and improvement; Jordana took 7 minutes and 22 seconds off her previous
personal record! Jacqueline Weixel just missed her personal record,
yet improved her time on this course by 3 minutes and 31 seconds.
Boys:
The top Finisher from Rocky
Hill was Dennis Wu with a time of 21:13. He improved by 2 minutes
and 43 seconds from his previous best time this season; and 3 minutes
18 seconds from first time he ran the course early in the season.
He finished 33rd out of 82 runners.
John Gibbons improved his
previous personal best by 10 seconds; running a 22:35 and ending
up in
48th place.
Philip Gyampo improved his
personal record by 25 seconds, running the course in 22:52; 1 minute
and 41 seconds faster than his first run on the course. He placed
55th overall.
Matthew Munoz took 38 seconds
off his personal record on the season, running 23:15, and finishing
in 59th place.
Daniel Ratigan improved his
record for this course by 2 minutes and 1 second. He placed 61st
with a time of 23:30.
Jordan Ashton ran his personal
record for the season at 24:09, improving 1 minute 50 seconds from
his previous time and placed 66th .

Boys' MS A Soccer vs. PCD W
1-0
In their season opener,
the Middle School Boys A Team went to PCD and earned a 1-0 victory
with Wyatt Sharpe scoring for us. Our defense was outstanding and
our attack grew increasingly aggressive as the game went on.
10-3-07
Boys' MS A Soccer vs. Pennfield W
1-0
The
Middle School Boys A Team is now into their third year of undefeated
play, as yet again on Wednesday they defeated a strong Pennfield
team 1 to 0. The lone goal was scored by seventh grade sensation
Robbie Petterutti late in the first half. Wyatt Sharpe and Matt
Nota continue to play great soocer in contributing to the Mariner
victory.
10-9-07
Boys' MS A Soccer vs. The San Miguel School
W 5-0
The
Middle School boys' A soccer team discovered its scoring touch as
it defeated San Miguel School 5-1. The team moved the ball very
well on attack and our defense continued to dominate.
10-16-07 Boys'
MS A Soccer vs. Gordon W 3-0
On a
beautiful fall day, we took on Gordon School and came away with
a 3-1 victory. The defense continued to be outstanding including
Clay Barker, Sam Hallowell and goalie, Dakota Bennett, all of whom
played their best game of the year. Our attack also continued to
show progress as Jack Cohen scored once and Robbie Petteruti twice.
10-20-07 Boys'
MS A Soccer vs. Somerset L 4-1
On Founders'
Day, the Mariners took on a talented Somerset team under somewhat
soggy conditions. We struck first on a beautiful goal by halfback
Wyatt Sharpe, but Somerset replied with two goals by the end of
the first half. In the final thirty minutes, we continued to play
with great enthusiasm, but were unable to catch up, and Somerset
went on to earn a 4-1 victory. Ethan Thoms and Matt Nota continued
to shine on defense.
10-22-07
Boys' MS A Soccer vs. St. Michael's W 2-0
The team took to the road
to take on St. Michael's. They had a bit of trouble getting going
and the game was scoreless at the half. Then our attack came to
life with goals by Robbie Petteruti and Wyatt Sharpe and the defense
held strong to earn us a 2-0 victory.
10-25-07
Boys' MS A Soccer vs. Moses Brown L 2-1
This was a game between two
well matched teams. Moses Brown scored first and led at the half.
Then Alec Mihailides netted his first of the year to tie the game.
Moses Brown responded with a second goal, and we were unable to
catch up.
11-1-07
Boys' MS A Soccer vs. Wheeler L 2-1
This was probably our most
exciting game of the year. There was constant back and forth action
with Wheeler jumping on top until Robbie Petteruti tied the game
before the half. We continued to press throughout the second half
and forced their keeper to make numerous saves. Unfortunately, Wheeler
did manage to net a second goal and came away with the victory.

9-26-07 Boys'
MS B Soccer vs. Moses Brown L 5-0
Though outmatched by
the Moses Brown squad in terms of experience and numbers, the Boys'
B team played respectably in its 6-1 loss Wednesday, the 26th.
After falling behind, 5-0, The Mariners rallied their efforts
to match up much more effectively and evenly against the Quakers
in the 2nd half. One example of Rocky Hill's persistent effort
occurred when Lucas Berg found the "back of the net"
after several previous bids by Matt Kalhofer and Max Jedrey
late in the game. Hopefully, the MS Boys' B team can carry
this positive momentum into its next contest, Thursday, the 27th,
against St. Andrew's.
9-27-07
Boys' MS B Soccer vs. St. Andrew's T 4-4
10-2-07
Boys' MS B Soccer vs. Bolck Island W 10-3
The Mariners
celebrated a big win over their guests from Block Island
on Tuesday. Despite many terrific scoring opportunities in
the 1st half, the Mighty B's only enjoyed a one-goal lead at halftime;
however, a persistent attack paid off well as Rocky
Hill tallied seven times to Block Island's one in the 2nd half.
Offensively, Matt Kalhofer led the team scoring with four goals;
in addition, Quintin Harris, Jim Stevens, Max Jedrey, Andrew Nota,
Lucas Berg, and Andrew Spremulli contributed a goal to the
overall effort. Defensively, Kevin Lieb gave another solid performance
in the net for the Mariners.
10-3-07
Boys' MS B Soccer vs. Pennfield W 6-0
Though with
only ten players, including their goalie, Pennfield arrived ready
and willing to play a 10-on-10 match against our eager squad.
However, the Mighty B's quickly established and maintained control
of this game in all areas of the field. Scoring for the Mariners
were Andrew Spremulli, Matt Kalhofer, T.J. Carley, Steven Santos
and Lucas Berg [with two] while the stingy Mariner defense
posted its first shutout on the season.
10-9-07
Boys' MS B Soccer vs. Barrington Christian Academy
L 8-1
As the
lopsided score would suggest, these Mariners spent much of the game
defending their goal from an explosive offense. Despite having
only eleven players, BCA clearly possessed an advantage
over Rocky Hill, in terms of its physical maturity and game
experience. While Quintin Harris was the lone goal-scorer
on the day, the Mariners did try repeatedly - but to no avail -to penetrate
the stingy BCA defense throughout the game.
All in
all, this team should be commended for its collective efforts
on the day; looking ahead, the Mighty B's should take heed
of any and all lessons learned in this contest to better prepare
for upcoming matches.
10-11-07
Boys' MS B Soccer @ West Bay Christian Academy
L 3-2
Despite
an outstanding effort on the part of this eleven-member squad, the
Mariners lost a great game to West Bay Christian Academy .
The lead change hands several times through the match to make it
particularly exciting. Offensively, Matt Kalhofer and Erik
DonFrancesco scored for Rocky Hill, while Kevin Lieb and Steven
Santos anchored this fine defensive effort.
10-16-07
Boys' MS B Soccer vs. Community Prep L
7-1
Despite
another strong team effort, the Mighty B's were simply outmatched
by a talented group from Community Prep. Specifically,
the Mariners battled valiantly to generate several good scoring
chances, but Matt Kalhofer collected the only goal on the day when
he successfully converted a penalty kick opportunity. And,
regardless of the final score, this determined defense
should be commended for its successful efforts to deny an explosive
offense on many more occasions than reflected in the already lopsided
score.
10-20-07
Boys' MS B Soccer vs. Pine Point W 7-0
Founders' Day proved
a great day to play for these Mariners as they won big against Pine
Point, 7-0. Scoring on the day were Quintin Harris, Matt Kalhofer,
Andrew Spremulli, Andrew Nota, Erik DonFrancesco, and Lucas Berg.
Congratulations to Kevin Lieb and his stingy defense as they
earned their second shutout of the season.
10-25-07
Boys' MS B Soccer vs. Jewish Community Day W 5-3
After JCD drew "first
blood" in the opening minutes, the Mariners exchanged leads
with their guests several times to close out the
1st half with a one goal advantage. Carrying this momentum
into the 2nd half, the Mighty B's scored two more times to
finish with a 5-3 victory. Specifically, Matt Kalhofer registered his
second hat-trick for the season as Erik DonFrancesco and Quintin
Harris also added a goal to the final score. Once again the
Mariner defense effectively shut down the opposing team's offense
when it mattered the most.
10-31-07
Boys' MS B Soccer vs. Pine Point W 2-1
After beating Pine Point
convincingly earlier in the month, the Mighty B's traveled west
to play them again in the season finale with a merry band of eleven.
Scoring first on a great redirect by Lucas Berg from Andrew Nota,
the Mariners dominated Pine Point for most of the 1st half except
for one miscue that amounted to a goal for the opponents.
Undaunted, Rocky Hill effectively kept up its attack throughout
the 2nd half, which translated into a game winning goal for Quentin
Harris. While Pine Point's goalies were challenged far
more to perform in their defensive end, Kevin Lieb once again
stood tall for Rocky Hill along with excellent support from Steven
Santos, Andrew Nota, and Nick Parker.
As a result, these Mariners finished
the year with a winning record, 5-4-1. Due to their collective
individual efforts, each player can share with pride in
his contribution to and role in this overall achievement.

Girls' Middle School A Team lost their first game to Block Island
4-2. Goal were scored by Jaime Antigniano and Karrissa Kist.
Goalie responsibilities in the first half were played by Anna Yamada
and in the second half by Hannah Thoms. The three captains,

during the game and motivated the team with positive comments while
playing. It was a great first game and the girls will play
their next game at Penfield.

Girls' MS A Soccer vs. Pennfield L 1-0
The team lost a tough
game to Pennfield 1-0. Outstanding play in the first half
was demonstrated by Anna Yamada in goal and Lauren Moran on offense.
With limited time left in the game, Pennfield scored a one-on-one
against Hannah Thoms. It was an exciting game and the girls
are looking forward to the next game against St. Michael's.

Girls' MS A Soccer vs. Barrington Christian
Academy L 0-4
The
Girls' A Middle School team lost a tough one to BCA 0-4 yesterday.
The girls fought hard, but BCA had a very fast aggressive team.
Some outstanding goals were stopped by Anna Yamada. A number
of aggressive attacks were led by Karissa Kist, Jesse Chase-Lubitz,
and Lauren Moran. The girls will return to action next week.
10-16-07
Girls' MS A Soccer vs. St. Michael's T 1-1
The
Girls' A Soccer Team tied (1-1) yesterday at St Michael's.
The only goal was scored by Lauren Moran with 6 minutes left to
play in the second half. Anna Yamada played an outstanding
game in goal and a number of her punts were passed mid-field.
The girls' next game is Saturday at 10:15 during Founders' Day.
10-20-07
Girls' MS A Soccer vs. Somerset L 4-0
On Founders'
Day the Girls' Middle School A Team lost 4 to 0 to Somerset. A solid
offensive performance was demonstrated by Christina Leahy, Lauren

and that all the practices have been paying off.
10-23-07
Girls' MS A Soccer vs. Moses Brown L 2-0
The

11-1-07
Girls' MS A Soccer vs. PCD W 2-0
The Girls'
Middle School A Team played the best game of the season yesterday
and beat PCD 2-0. The first goal was scored by Karissa Kist

kick by Laura DeBlois. Overall, everyone who played put their
best effort into the game and it showed!

Girls' MS B Soccer vs. St. Michael's L
1-0
Unfortunately,
the Girls' Middle School B Soccer Team lost 1-0 yesterday afternoon
to St. Michaels's. St. Michael's scored the lone goal on a breakaway
late in the second half. Rocky Hill had several good scoring opportunities
on shots by Jessica Donatelli, Karissa Kist, and Lauren Moran and
was unlucky not to convert any of them into goals. The girls played
well and I was proud of their effort with no subs to give them a
rest.
10-16-07
Girls' MS B Soccer vs. Moses Brown L 4-0
The
Middle School Girls' B Team game on Tuesday was a 4-0 loss to Moses
Brown. The Rocky Hill girls played well and created a few scoring
chances that they could not convert. That, combined with a few injuries
to the home side, and the good play of a talented Moses Brown side,
proved too much for Rocky Hill to overcome.
10-18-07
Girls' MS B Soccer vs. Cluny W 4-1
In Thursday's
game against Cluny, the Rocky Hill girls earned their first victory
of the season. After falling behind 1- 0, the home side battled
back to score 4 in a row. Rachel Silverstein scored two goals, and
Kate Nota and Gabby Ferrucci scored one each. Strong defensive play
and good goaltending by Jessica Cooper was enough to allow the four
goals to hold up. Overall, I was proud of the girls' effort in both
games.
10-20-07
Girls' MS B Soccer vs. Somerset L
7-1
The
Rocky Hill Middle School Girls' B Soccer Team lost on Saturday
by a score of 7-1 against a very talented Somerset side. The
Rocky Hill girls played hard and in the second half were rewarded
for their efforts with a goal. The goal came when Kate Nota made
a run with the ball towards goal. Upon being challenged by
a Somerset defender, she slipped a pass to Rachel Silverstein on
her left who buried the ball in the back of the net. It is worth
noting that this great play by these two 5th graders came against
girls on the Somerset team who were at least two to three years
older than them.
