until the last four minutes when a flurry or scoring by the Mariners
sealed the win. Point guard Lucianna Faraone-Coccia led the offensive
effort, and she added a career high of six points and two assists

Girls' MS A Team Basketball vs. Barrington Christian
Academy W 28 - 16

This was the most aggressive game the girls faced all season and
a pressure, full court defense was added by Erica Santos and Lucianna
Faraone-Coccia in the second half. The eighth graders just
returned from Quebec City and played an excellent game. I
was very proud of everyone who played. The record is now 2-2.

Stevens. All of the girls played well and the team continues
to improve on pressing and shooting of a dribble. The next

Girls' MS A Team Basketball vs. West Bay Christian Academy
W 23 - 16
Game 1: The girls played
the best game of the tournament and beat WBCA 23-16. The full court
pressure and making of lay-ups kept the girls in control the whole
time. Leading scorers were Laura Monti and Lauren Moran both with
six points, and Erica Santos four points.
2-27-07
Girls' MS A Team Basketball vs. Community Prep
L 14 - 31

to challenge Community Prep. Their fast break and aggressive play
was no match for the Mariners and the girls lost 31 – 14. Leading
scorers were Erica Santos with five points, and Natalie Cotta with
four. Even though they lost, the first victory qualified the girls
to play in the semi-final game on Thursday.

B Team Basketball
1-11-07
Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. Barrington Christian
Academy L 10 - 33
The
MS Boys' B Team lost a hard fought game to Barrington Christian
Academy (BCA). BCA jumped out to an early 22-0 half time lead, but
the Mariners fought back allowing only 11 points in the second half.
Alex Arnold, Ethan Thoms, and Dane Ardente scored to bring the team
back, but none were more spectacular than the shot scored by David
Monti from the seat of his pants. Defensive play by Teddy Trocki-Ryba
(2 blocks) and stellar man-to-man coverage by John Donatelli held
the BCA offense in check most of the second half. Despite the lopsided
score, the Mariners played hard and felt good about their effort.
1-16-07
Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. Jewish Community School
L 14 - 22
Yesterday's game at Jewish
Community School was a success all around. It was a one-point
game for the first half, but after coming back to the court flat,
the RHS team promptly was down a number of points. Despite
that, the last time our team showed marked improvement from our
last meeting. Ethan Thom's was the high scorer with five points
including a picture perfect three-pointer under pressure. The
final score was 22 to14 leaving us only eight points down.
1-18-07
Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. Friend's Academy
L 20 - 25
The Middle School Boys'
"B" team is continuing to show improvement, but lost a
tough game against Friends Academy, 25 - 20. The team was led by
Tim Jeon, who dominated the boards while dropping in eight points.
Alec Mihailides and David Monti contributed four points each, with
two each from John Donatelli and Alex Arnold. The team played solid
defense and used this to erase an eight point deficit, pulling to
within two, bringing the capacity crowd to its feet. Friend's Academy
then responded and built a lead that remained just out of
reach. The team continues to work hard, hustling on both offense
and defense. We are looking forward to our next game Monday,
January 22 against West Bay Christian.
1-22-07
Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. West Bay Christian Academy
L 14 - 28
Another tough defeat for
the Mariners, but the hard work and determination is beginning to
pay off. West Bay jumped out to an early lead, which led to some
defensive adjustments. The never say die attitude of the players
kicked in and they made several defensive stops. This led to the
Mariners climbing back into the game. The defense was led by John
Donatelli, Jack Cohen and Andrew Roderick. Tim Jeon, Ethan Thoms
and David Monti again contributed on offense.
1-31-07
Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. Gordon
L 10 - 30
The
"Battlin' Bs" traveled to Providence and tried valiantly
to break into the win column against the Gordon Gators. The Mariners,
heading into the game with depleted numbers, only nine players,
battled and held a slim one point lead midway through the first
half. The Gordon team, with unlimited players coming off the bench,
was able to muster a comeback and held a two-point lead at halftime.
Ethan Thoms continued to show that he is an outside threat, draining
another three-pointer from deep beyond the arc. Inside, Tim Jeon
and Alec Mihailides contributed with two points and five points
respectively with assists coming from Jack Cohen. Andrew Roderick,
John Donatelli, David Monti, Sven Wadensten, and Teddy Trocki-Ryba
played tough defense. Unfortunately, the depth of the Gordon
bench proved too difficult to overcome. The Mariners grew tired
and were unable to maintain the pace from the first half, eventually
succumbing 30-10. We are eager to get back on the court next week
in pursuit of our first win.
1-31-07
Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. Community Prep
L 26 - 36
The
"Battlin' Bs" were back in action again on Thursday and
turned in their best game of the year. Although they were defeated
by a talented Community Prep team, 36-26, the "Bs" showed
grit and determination throughout. The team employed a new defensive
strategy, man-to-man coverage, which greatly hampered the offensive
firepower of Community Prep. Once again, Ethan Thoms showed his
range by sinking two three pointers. Other scorers included Rob
Petteruti, Tim Jeon, Nic Lamoureux, and Alec Mihailides. John Donatelli,
Jack Cohen, Teddy Trocki-Ryba, Andrew Roderick and Chris Babich
all contributed with strong games. While still looking for
that elusive first "W", the team is making great progress
and the coaches could not be prouder of the way the players are
working. The "Bs" will be looking to avenge an "A"
team loss to PCD, when they play next Thursday at 3:15 in the Sharpe
Gym.
2-15-07
Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. PCD L 11 -
60
Unfortunately, the "Battlin'
Bs" were unable to avenge the A's loss to PCD. It was a difficult
game as the team fell behind early, and was never able to mount
a run. The strong defense that we have come to rely on could not
keep the PCD shooters in check as they seemed to pour in shots from
everywhere on the court. Despite the lopsided score, 60-11, the
Bs never gave up and were gracious in defeat. We are looking to
break into the win column this week against Wheeler on
Tuesday and Moses Brown on Thursday.
2-20-07
Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. Wheeler L
12 - 37
The
Battlin' Bs quest for that elusive first win was again thwarted
by a high powered Wheeler team. Despite the efforts of Ethan Thoms,
pouring in eight points, the team just wasn't able to keep up. The
final score 37-12. Thursday will be our last game and hopefully
we will be able to end on a high note with a win against MB.
2-22-07
Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. Moses Brown
L 16 - 31
Unfortunately, the "Battlin'
Bs" were unable to capture that elusive victory this season,
falling in the final game 31-16. The team never lost their
spirit nor their desire to improve. The final game against Moses
Brown was a great example of this effort. Despite trailing at the
half, the team was asked to go into a full court man-to-man press.
The defense was great. Having given up 28 points in the first, the
strong effort allowed only 3 points to be scored by the opponent
in the second half. For this, the coaches are very proud. We are
confident that next year's team will continue the tradition set
forth by this group of athletes and that we will eventually break
into the win column.
Our end of the year team
awards were given out on Thursday. Our MVP award was given to our
top scorer, Ethan Thoms. The Most Improved Player award was given
to Tim Jeon and the Coach's Award was presented to David Monti.
