PLAY-OFFS
Finals:
5-19-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. Hyde Loss
18-8
The varsity boys' lacrosse
team traveled to Hyde for the SENE Championship on Monday.
A very well coached and talented Hyde squad, and mental mistakes
on our end, led RHS to lose 18-8 in the finals. Hyde was a
very respectable team, and tends to be difficult to score
upon. We were also down a man for a portion of the game, which
did not help our cause. When we did have the ball, we played
well, and scored very high quality goals. Brendan Schulz once
again showed his mettle, with 13 saves on the day. It was
a difficult day indeed for the team, but we end the season
feeling proud of our progress as a team and our ability to
make it to the championship game.
Semi-Finals:
5-16-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. Falmouth
W 17-12
Friday was the semi-final round for
the SENE boys' lacrosse, and RHS showed up big, having scored
on just about all shots in the first half. Brendan Schulz
(14 saves) got his (albeit a bit of a stretch of one) first
assist of the season this year in the 3 rd quarter, further
solidifying his important role in the goal this season for
the varsity squad. Jarred Carr is listed as the top goal scorer
(5 goals, 2 assists), with Barrett Cavanagh right behind with
4 goals. A strong defense kept Falmouth limited to one
goal in the first quarter, and Rocky Hill never relinquished
its lead through out the game. Congratulations RHS!

5-14-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. St. Andrew's W 11-7
Rocky finished off the regular
season at St. Andrew's. St. Andrew's came prepared with a healthy
squad and offered an excellent quality game against RHS. A game
riddled with penalties on both sides of the field, Rocky Hill held
on for a strong win, which will take us on to the semi-final game
at home against Falmouth . The best part of this game that the ball
moved around well, and just about any player who scored a goal got
an assist as well. This was certainly proof of good ball movement.
teamwork and heads up quality play.
5-12-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. St. Thomas More W
8-3
Rocky Hill traveled to St.
Thomas Moore and played in windy, chilly conditions. Spirits are
still high after the big game against Falmouth , and even with a
slow start on offense and a very physical game, RHS came out with
a solid win. The team gets ready for the final game of the
season against a solid, athletic St. Andrew's on Wednesday, as the
team moves forward toward the post season.
5-7-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. Falmouth W 15-11
Something was in the air
this day, as all of Rocky Hill lacrosse was up in spirits and positive
attitudes. There was a large, team-wide acceptance of what we must
do as a team to succeed. As soon as Adam Swist scored the first
goal of the game, Rocky Hill began firing on all cylinders for the
first time all season. Barrett Cavanagh led the offense (6 goals
on 7 shots, 9 gameballs), and Brendan Schulz had huge game with
18 saves. We showed up strong, ready to play, and won an important
game, on and off the field.
5-5-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. William L 13-1
Rocky Hill faced a talented
and disciplined team in Williams. As a team, we were still thinking
about the Falmouth game and did not play at our best. Our defense
did work well against an organized offensive effort from Williams.
Our offense stumbled a bit, making low quality passes at key points
during the game. Brendan Schulz (15 saves) played well the cage,
and helped the defense put up a strong effort in this the non-district
match-up.
5-2-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. Falmouth L 6-4
RHS played
at Falmouth Academy on Friday evening. Some obstacles continue
to impede our goals, but with positive goal-tending and a strong
defense, we were able to keep the score close, losing 6-4. A hard
fought loss, we look forward to seeing them at our home field Wednesday
afternoon as we try and pull off a win to get a better seeding for
the upcoming playoffs, which begin in one week.
5-1-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. Marionapolis W 8-3
RHS traveled to Marianapolis,
playing on a muddy, slippery, field, which offered some interesting
aspects to the game. This was a game our underclassmen really grew
from. Sam LeBlanc was the goalie of the day, with seven saves (game
high). Julian Salvatore and Jonathon Arthur stepped up and made
some great plays on the attack today, each showing what they want
to bring to the program over the next few years. The team mostly
had a good time, especially after the hard loss just one day earlier.
4-30-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. Hyde L 6-4
The boys' lacrosse team played
a hard fought battle, which did not turn out as we expected. With
some lack-luster effort in our part through out key areas of the
field, mistakes were made, and our focus was off. We still had stellar
play in the goal from Brendan Schulz (12 saves on 22 shots) who
had excellent support from the defense. Servi Barrientos was given
the task of covering their best attack, which he held to only one
goal and one assist. Hustle and heart award would be given to Morgan
Helm who dug in and fought hard for a game high 12 groundballs.
We once again walked off the field feeling like we let one slip
by.
4-23-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. St. Andrew's W 7-3
The Boys' Varsity Lacrosse
team played St. Andrew's on Wednesday in the most competitive game
of the season this year. While the score, 7-3, does not reflect
it, the game was up and down the field, with good offense and defense
on both sides of the ball. Tory Dumas played with exceptional charisma
and hustle, scoring two goals and getting two assists, having the
game high of 4 points. Jarred Carr showed some class and finesse
with a nice shot wrapped around his ankles, finishing with 3 points
(1g, 2a). Solid defense from Servi Barrientos (4 ground balls) and
Barrett Cavanagh (1g, 2a, game high 5 gb) allowed the RHS lacrosse
transition game and offense to maintain control on the field. The
team is excited for their next game.
4-21-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. St. Thomas More W 7-3
Highlights to come.
4-14-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. Marionapolis W 11-2
Boys' Varsity took on Marianapolis
yesterday for their home opener of the season, and showed the significant
progress being made with their hard work at practice. With a different
group to start the game off than in last weeks hard fought loss
to Hyde, the squad took a little bit to calm themselves down, but
after a quick pep talk during a time-out with Coach Truncelito,
the offense finally found their groove, and knocked off three goals
in fairly quick succession. Once the goals started to come, Rocky
Hill maintained a command of the game and never relinquished it.
The final score may be uneven, with RHS winning 11-2, there was
significant amount of fight between the boxes, and the offense did
tend to get a couple of quality looks at the goal. All three goalies
played with style and finesse, with Sam LeBlanc leading the charge
with three saves on the day. Freshman goalie Mike Tilley had a strong
showing in his first time between the pipes for the varsity squad.
The defense played as a team much better than previously, making
Coach Blankenship smile. The man-up offense was as strong as ever,
and showed great leadership, and helping the underclassmen see more
time on the field than before. Rocky Hill lacrosse is starting to
see the new system being installed by Coach Blankenship and Coach
Truncelito coming together. Congratulations RHS Boys Lacrosse!
4-7-08
Boys' Varsity Lacrosse vs. Hyde L 14-4
We lost a hard fought game,
which we as a team believe we could have won. Hyde jumped out to
a demanding 5-1 lead in the first quarter. This was a very challenging
position to be in going into the second period, but we adjusted
our defense, which allowed our offense to take a bit of control
in the game. Our defense held Hyde scoreless the entire 2nd quarter,
while our offense held the ball well, and created quality opportunities
putting the score at 5-3 by halftime; and we were feeling much better
about our game.
Our third quarter was our
best offensive attempt, tallying two more goals off of ten recorded
shots, cutting the lead to 6-5. The coaches felt the momentum was
swinging our way, but our lack of endurance began to take its toll,
our defense began to break down, and we just could not keep the
motor running long enough pull the upset victory, losing 8-5. We
walked away frustrated, but feeling confident we can walk into our
next games with more pride and higher expectations than we did today.
Stand out play from Barrett Cavanaugh, Jarred Carr, Brendan Schultz,
and all our long-poles made the difference in key aspects of the
game. We will be eager to take the field again when we play Marianapolis.

5-13-08 Boys' JV Lacrosse
vs. Hyde W 6-6
After going up early by two
goals, the RHS JV lacrosse team saw a Hyde team with was much larger
numbers stage a comeback in the second half to tie the score at
five with about two minutes to go in regulation. Looking tired and
worn out, the Rocky Hill squad strapped on their helmets for what
they figured was one last go in overtime. Both teams registered
shots that keen goaltenders managed to stop, and the first overtime
period ended with the score still knotted at 5-5. Finally, after
spirited back and forth play, with 40 seconds left in the second
overtime, on a clean feed from Jonathan Arthur, Dan Gauvin squeezed
a sneaky side arm shot past the rival keeper for the win, thus ending
Rocky Hill's 2008 JV's undefeated campaign. The team enjoyed solid
backstopping by Mike Tilley, who recorded 12 saves, and goals by
Julian Salvatore, Sean Mellor, Servi Barrientos (2), and Dan Gauvin
(2), including the game winner.
5-6-08 Boys' JV Lacrosse
vs. Falmouth W 4-3
The boys' junior varsity team won their first game, beating Falmouth
4-3. Goals were scored by Max Hall, Dan Gauvin, Julian Salvatore,
and Phil Twombley. Sam LeBlanc did some outstanding work in goal,
Overall, it was a good team effort, and the boys showed great enthusiasm
and sportsmanship.

to post a W. Wheeler came back strong and learned quickly how to penetrate
our zone defense. Katie stayed strong in goal with 17 saves.
4-29-08 Girls'
Varsity Lacrosse vs. Hyde W 17-1
Rocky Hill dominated Hyde
today through the wind and rain. The Mariner's demonstrated
superior offensive skills–every player except for the three deep

4-15-08 Girls'
Varsity Lacrosse vs. Williams L 6-3
The Mariners had a tough
game against non-league Williams Tuesday night. With only
three subs up against a team with fourteen subs, our team definitely
got winded quickly. Rocky Hill dominated the first half, with
Anthea Weixel and Sarah Knowles scoring in the 1st two minutes of
the game. Hannah Knowles also recorded a goal for RHS. Unfortunately
it wasn't enough to keep up with Williams' six goals. Loud
clapping and shouting goes to the entire team with an outstanding
EIGHT interceptions that resulted in turnovers. I'd also like
to acknowledge Ashley's two saves yesterday - one she unselfishly
blocked with her leg, and the other was a diving block on a shot
to open goal!! Nice job Ashley!! Katy McGinnis recorded 18 saves
in goal.
4-14-08 Girls'
Varsity Lacrosse vs. Marianapolis W 13-1
Rocky Hill dominated the
field today against Marianapolis. Today's game highlight is
for Shreve Cameron - she was an integral piece of the midfield with
her solid ball-handling skills and slick ability to get away from
the pressure. On top of that, she had a dynamite reverse scoop
shot off of a perfectly-placed pass from Ellie. Way to go

4-7-08 Girls'
Varsity Lacrosse vs. PCD L 11-3
We had a tough 1st game of the season against PCD-things started out
a little rusty, but we picked up to full speed into the second half
of the game. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to catch up to
PCD's intensity. A big pat on the back to new team member and
freshman Phoebe Bartlett, who filled in for Shreve as D-Wing.
Phoebe was a significant asset in breaking down PCD's mid-field attack!
RHS ultimately lost 3-11. Mariners who made it to the net: Anthea
Weixel, Allison Rooney and Sarah Knowles.

5-19-08 Boys'
MS A Lacrosse vs. Williams L 8-2
The RHS middle school A lacrosse
team made the long trek to Williams yesterday, and came back a bit
frustrated. It was a tough, very physical game, and the scoreboard
didn't tell the whole story. Williams was strong in the net,
rejecting most of our efforts to get the ball in it. Rocky
Hill's defense was lacking a key member due to injury, and the attack
and midfielders found themselves fighting hard for every ground
ball. Williams most definitely had size on us and used it
relentlessly to keep us out of the scoring zone, and take us out
of “our” game. All RHS players saw time and put forth a strong
effort, but the score refused to change quickly enough for us.
Both Lucas Berg and Joey DiBiase took a half in the goal, each facing
many hard, well placed shots, and repelling a good percentage of
them. Scoring for RHS was Matt Nota with two goals.
The team is looking forward to a tough, but closer match up against
MB on Wednesday, to close out our season.
5-17-08
MS Boys' Lacrosse Tournament
RHS came in third
overall in our lacrosse tournament at Moses Brown. The
mariners won their first game against Pennfield 3-0. There
was solid play by RHS, and everyone had time on the field.
Matt Nota had one goal and Andrew Nota contributed two.
In the second game,
we played Gordon and ended with a loss 5-3, but with the news
that Gordon beat MB 4-1 in the first game, and due to the
fact that we held them to a closer game then during regular
season play; we had high hopes of a close match up against
MB. Scoring for RHS were Matt Nota with two and Ethan Thoms
with one.
Our third and final
game of the day, against MB, was a heartbreaker. Whoever
won this one was going to the championship. The final
score was 4-1 with MB as the victors. Of the four goals
MB scored on us, three were while we were man or men down
due to penalty calls. At one point, we were three men
down, and of course, they took full advantage. Matt
Nota scored the lone RHS goal. The difference between
second and third was tough to swallow given the circumstances.
Overall, the experience was a good one, and the boys stuck
together as a team.
Winning the sportsmanship
awards for RHS were Joey DiBiase, Will Pontarelli and Sam
Hallowell. Medallions were awarded to these players
at midfield during the awards presentation prior to the championship
game.

5-8-08 Boys'
MS A Lacrosse vs. Wheeler L
The MS boys “A” team took
a tough defeat Thursday against a well organized tough team from
Wheeler. Their goalie left little space to get the ball in
and stopped most of what RH put his way. Scoring for RHS were
Matt Nota with four goals, Joey DiBiase with one and Sam Hallowell
with one assist. With a deeper bench and strong commitment,
Wheeler played their game taking RHS out of theirs.
5-6-08 Boys'
MS A Lacrosse vs. St. Michael's W 7-5
The Middle School “A” lacrosse squad faced a tough opponent in St.
Michael's today, but took the challenge head on. St. M's attack
couldn't get anything started in the first half of the game while
facing the defensive “triple towers” of Pontarelli, Bennett and Lieb.
This allowed Rocky Hill's attack and midfield crews the opportunity
to get on the scoreboard early with three goals in the first quarter,
and two in the second. St. M's finally got on the board in the
third quarter with three goals, but was held to only two more in the
last quarter. During this time, RHS put two more in the back
of the net to finish the game 7-5. Great, smart and hard play
all around by everyone on the team, even with a shallow bench for
support, kept us ahead to the end. Scoring for RHS Wyatt Sharpe
(1), Andrew Nota (1), Matt Nota (5), and Sam Hallowell ha d two assists.
4-21-08 Boys'
MS A Lacrosse vs. Gordon L 8-5
A talented squad from
Gordon handed the MS Boys' A Team its first loss on Monday. After
jumping out to an early lead in the first quarter, Gordon responded
with eight goals over the next three quarters. Despite answering
with four of their own to keep it close, the Mariners could not
close the gap. The team will work hard to make adjustments to prepare
successfully for their upcoming competition. Scoring for the Mariners
were Matt Nota, with three goals and two assists, and Andrew Nota,
with two goals.
4-17-08 Boys'

4-14-08 Boys'
MS B Team Lacrosse vs. Pine Point L 7-5
Yesterday's game against Pine Point was a huge success.
With only four days of practice as a team, the boys impressed us
all with their ability to step on the field and play. They
worked hard and had a great time. We have plenty of skills
to develop, but loosing by only two against a well established team
is a huge feat in and of itself. The final score was 7-5.
