Boys' Middle School B Team Basketball

Record 0-9

2-25-08 Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs.  Pine Point L 40-32

The final game for the Middle School boys' B team was played at Pine Point.  The team was eager to come away with a win after a long season but started the game a bit flat.  The first quarter was tough; the height on the other team proved to be a challenge to defend and their inside shots were on the mark.  With a score of 14-4, we had room to improve.  The boys returned fired up and were able to close the gap to 5 points at the end of the half.  Matt Kalhoffer was leading the team in points with 6 on the board and our boys down low were doing a great job keeping the other team at bay.  The third quarter proved to be some of the best basket ball the team played this season.  It all came together and the gap closed to 1 and the score was 28-29.  We played well on defense and offense.  We put many shots up, but many were just shy.  So close yet so far.  The final quarter of both the game and the season proved to be the one that got away.  Pine Point took back control of the game and left us down by 8 at the end.  A fantastic game was played by all and the game was a true sign of how far the team has come over the course of the year.  Despite the final score of 40-32 the team should be proud of both the close game and a fantastic season.

2-21-08 Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. Gordon L 38-32

The Middle School boys' B team showed up for a showdown with Gordon on Thursday and treated the packed house to a thrilling game. Though ultimately falling to the Gordon squad 38-32, it was clearly the finest effort yet this season. Tough defense led to many scoring opportunities that saw the B's collecting more points than they have in any previous game. The tandem of Matt Kalhofer and Kevin Lieb scored 24 of the team's points. Eric DonFrancesco and Alec Mihailides also chipped in. It was a back and forth affair with many lead changes. A great effort was put forth by the entire team. Unfortunately, with only one game left in the season, we will just have one final chance to show how far we have come. The coaches are extremely proud of this group, which has worked hard and showed tremendous improvement throughout the year.

2-19-08 Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. Wheeler L 38-19

Unfortunately, the Wheeler squad proved tough to beat, as the MS Boys B team lost 38-19. Despite the lopsided score, the Bs probably played one of their best games of the season. The team never stopped hustling and many of the techniques that we have been working on started to show. Matt Kalhofer continued to be tough to stop, both offensively and defensively. His many steals led to breakaway scoring opportunities that he did not waste. Pouring in ten points, Matt's never-give-up attitude is an inspiration to the whole team. Mike Caramadre demonstrated his long-range shooting ability by nailing a three pointer. Alec Mihailides, Kevin Lieb, and Aiden Toohey also chipped in with two points each. On the defensive end, Kurtis Stevick continues to shine. He had many steals and rebounds that helped to keep Wheeler from completely dominating the game. Blake Vincent also helped out. Playing in just his second game, Blake has shown great promise for things to come. The team gets little rest as they play again on Thursday against Gordon.

2-14-08 Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. PCD L 47-19

The team traveled to PCD to do battle with a tough Knights team. The PCD squad came out with a full-court press from the beginning of the game which caught the Mariners off guard. After a few quick steals and baskets, the Mariners found themselves down by a couple of baskets. After a timeout to devise a plan to beat the press, the Mariners got on the scoreboard. The press continued to prove a challenge throughout the game, and the Mariners were never quite able to climb out of the hole in which they found themselves. Kevin Lieb continued to be strong on the boards and dropped in nine points. Also chipping in were Matt Kalhofer and Eric DonFrancesco with four points each. Charles Rego also contributed with two points. Kurtis Stevick, Blake Vincent, Andrew Roderick, and Mark Field continue to improve on defense and all combined to make several good stops. The B's have a tough, short week coming up with two home games, Tuesday and Thursday. The final game of the season is next week with a trip to Pine Point. The team continues to work hard and is hoping to find the win column in at least one of these last three games.

2-6-08 Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs. Community Prep L 37-14

The Middle School Boys B team took to the road with a game at Community Prep. The Community Prep team was filled with talent and was able to jump out to an early lead. The B's fought hard and showed that practice is paying off. The team played better defense and at times passed the ball incredibly well. Kevin Lieb is proving to be a great asset to the team. Gathering rebounds and pouring in eight of the team's fourteen points, Kevin is showing that his injured arm has healed well. Additional scorers include Matt Kalhofer and Aiden Toohey. Kurtis Stevick and Quentin Harris played well on defense, making many key stops.

1-31-08     Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs.  Pennfield  L 32 - 17

The Middle School B basketball team hit the road to take on Pennfield. Our practice time has paid off, as both the offense and defense played a role in keeping the game close. Rocky Hill jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead and held the lead until late into the first half. Leading the offensive surge was Kevin Lieb, who has just returned to the team after being sidelined with a broken wrist. Additional offensive stars were Alec Mihailides, Mike Caramadre, Charles Rego, Aiden Toohey, and Quentin Harris. Playing tough on defense were Matt Kalhofer, Andrew Roderick, Erik DonFrancesco and Steven Santos. Eventually, the taller Pennfield team was able to pull ahead and went on to win 32-17. Despite the loss, the coaches continue to see great improvement with the team. With continued hard work, we are hoping to get our first victory of the year next week as we travel to Community Prep.

1-23-08     Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs.  Moses Brown  L 31 - 14

The boys' B team played a great game against Moses Brown on the 23rd.  Excited after numerous strong practices and shooting success, they hit the court with a full head of steam.  Moses Brown, we later found out, had clearly been putting in their time as well.  They took the lead fast and held it through to the end.  The final score of 14 to 31 was tough to stomach.  MB's 14-point lead at the half got us excited and in the defensive mind set.  We finished the game with a strong second half, which left us wishing for more time on the clock.

1-15-08     Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs.  Jewish Community Day  L  26 - 11

The Middle School Boys B Team laced ‘em up on Tuesday for a game against Jewish Community Day. In a tough game, the “Bs” lost 26-11. This was especially disappointing as early in the game the Rocky Hill squad held a narrow two point lead, and was only trailing by four at the half. The JCD team came out strong in the second half, and despite valiant efforts by many players, the crew from Rocky Hill was unable to overcome the deficit. Contributing to the scoring for Rocky Hill were Andrew Spremulli, Alec Mihailides, Mike Caramadre, Charles Rego, and Matt Kalhofer. Contributing on defense were Kurtis Stevick, Aiden Toohey, Andrew Roderick, Erik Don Francesco, and Steven Santos. With a couple of days to practice, we are hoping to improve on our rebounding and shooting in an effort to be ready for our next opponent. On Wednesday, January 23 we travel to Moses Brown for our first “road game” of the season.

1-10-08     Boys' MS B Team Basketball vs.  Barrington Christian Academy  L  36 - 17

The boys' B basketball team kicked off the 2008 season with a tough loss to Barrington Christian Academy, 36-17.  The game started slow for the Battlin' Bs, falling behind 24-2.  The team easily could have given up then, but instead they fought hard and scored 15 points in the second half, while holding BCA to only 12. The key to the second half comeback was tough defense played by Charles Rego, Steven Santos, and Andrew Spremulli, who made numerous steals. The offensive resurgence was shared by eight different players. Leading scorers for the game were Quintin Harris and Alec Mihailides, with three points. Matt Kalhofer, Aiden Toohey, Mike Caramadre, Andrew Spremulli, and Erik DonFrancesco chipped in with two points each. Matt Rego added one more with a free throw. The team is eager to get back onto the practice court, so they can work on some of the weaknesses revealed in this first game.
