Katrina Team Travels to Mississippi, cont.

The group of students raised money throughout the school year to fund the trip and were selected based on an essay and application submission. This is the third consecutive year that Rocky Hill School has organized such a trip as part of their community service program at the school. Each Upper School student is required to complete 30 hours of community service to graduate. Many of the students far eclipse the requirement; and the students attending this year are no exception. Combined, the Katrina Team had completed more than 700 hours of community service before leaving for Hattiesburg. The team consists of fourteen juniors and seniors and three faculty members. Ms. Maureen Fahey is the school's community service coordinator and has organized the trip over the last three years. Two students, Jacqueline Weixel and Ted Broderick (300+ hours of service), returned to Hattiesburg for a second time, having participated in the effort last March. Jacqueline was joined by her father James Weixel, who also attended in 2007.
