Arts Week - Artists in Residence

As part of our Arts Week celebrations, each division invited artists of all sorts to visit our campus and spend time with students. It rounded out a wonderful week of the Sights & Sounds of Rocky Hill School.

April 2006

Upper School faculty member and RHS's favorite photographer Terry Coes presented a parent workshop about digital and film photography.

Upper School students enjoyed a presentation by a panel of five accomplished artists from New York City. Pictured here is Tom Matt, a painter and drawer who is known for his city scapes and portraits.

Children's author and Illustrator, Brian Lies, presented a workshop to students in the Lower School. Above, Brian is discussing the illustration process from his most recent book

Bats at the Beach.

Fifth Graders had the pleasure of a luncheon

with Mr. Lies after his presentation. The lunch

was filled with lively conversation and many

good questions.

Charles and Consuelo Sherba spent time with Lower Schoolers who learned many musical facts and heard the the lovely sounds of classical music couples with the story of Ferdinand the Bull.

Counsuelo and Charles are both members of the RI Philharmonic and their son Alex graduated from Rocky Hill School.

RHS parent Jean Monti is an illustrator and portrait painter. She met with students in both the middle and Lower School to discuss her genre of art.

Musician Steve Caraccia rounded out a busy

week in Lower School. He met with students

and played the mandolin and discussed the instrument's significance in American folk music.

Students enrolled in Upper School art spent time with RHS alumnus, Trustee and parent Henry Sharpe `72. Henry is an engineer and spoke

with the students about design and engineering.

Thank you to all of the amazing artists

who visited our campus. The week

was alive with beautiful sounds,

vibrant colors and interesting stories.

We look forward to this being an

annual event.
