Lower School News
Week
of October 20-25, 2008
|
Dear
Students and Families,
 |
These
happy Kindergarten students helped
teach the rest of Lower School a lesson on good
citizenship at this week's Morning Assembly.
They taught a spirited song entitled “I Can Show Respect”,
which reminded all about the importance of using manners,
being careful about the things we say, and emphasized
how following the rules can help us to show respect
to others in our community. |
A
new addition! The Lower School welcomes new student
Alexis Weiler to First Grade!
Founders'
Day at Rocky Hill: This Saturday, October
18th, Rocky Hill will celebrate Founders' Day, a
lively tradition at our school. In preparation for this fun-filled
event, the entire school community participated in Blue/White
Day on Friday. The 4th and 5th grade students enjoyed playing
in the Inaugural Blue/White Fall Soccer Classic. That was
followed by a spirited Pep Rally, attended by the entire school.
Saturday events will include athletic competitions, great
food, and many activities for the entire family. We encourage
everyone to attend to help usher in the fall!
Kindergarten
Field Trip: The Kindergarten Class will travel to
Escobar Highland Farm for a fall science field trip on Tuesday,
September 21st. The class will leave campus at 9:00 AM and
return by 12:30 PM. Remember to dress warmly!
Congratulations
to Sinead Burnett, Kindergarten, who was
recently recognized as a September VIP!
Mrs.
Osowa will be traveling to northern Massachusetts
on Wednesday to visit the Islamic School of New England. She
will be chairing a committee of the New England Association
of Schools and Colleges, which will evaluate the school's
candidacy for accreditation by the Association.
Our
sincerest condolences are sent out to Mrs. Kathy Majkut
(Miss Kathy), Extended Day Teacher, whose father
passed away this week.
Grade
3 is planning a field trip to the Pequot Museum on Wednesday,
October 22nd, to enhance their study of Native American
life. This rich museum experience offers students an opportunity
to study the habitats, cultural life and customs of the Native
Americans from this area. The class will leave campus at 8:30
AM and will return by 3:15 PM.
Rocky
Hill's Fall Admission Open House will be held on Saturday,
October 25th from 10:00 AM - Noon. Our school will
be open to prospective families who have an interest in learning
more about independent school education at Rocky Hill. Our
current parents have always been our most effective form of
advertising the quality of a Rocky Hill education. If you
know of any families who would like to learn more about our
school, please pass their names and addresses along to Mrs.
Catherine Washburn, Director of Admission (cwashburn@rockyhill.org).
We will be sure to include them on the invitation list. Thank
you!
A
treasured Lower School tradition, GrandFriends' Day
on Tuesday, November 25th is fast approaching. Each
year, students invite a special grandparent or “grand friend”
to school on November 25th for a morning of classroom activities
and music. Our students look forward to sharing their school
life with these special friends. Invitations will be mailed
this week. If you have not provided addresses for your child's
Grand Friends, please contact Mrs. Barbara Feingold ( bfeingold@rockyhill.org
) in the Development office ASAP. We don't want to leave
anyone out!
