Background

Belinda attended an all girls grammar school in Kent , UK . After studying at Hull University, she went into an unlikely career in teaching high school students, and spent the next 20 years teaching 11 to 18 year olds. While teaching in the UK , Belinda also chaired the geography department, acted as a work experience coordinator, and as an assessment and examinations officer. From 1984 to 1985, Belinda had the wonderful opportunity to be a Fulbright Exchange teacher and taught  7th and 8th grade social studies in Weston , CT. Her last position while working in the UK was as a third grade teacher.

When Belinda's husband's job moved them to the USA in 2000, she became a docent to the Corning Glass Museum in upstate New York and worked in the Corning Library as an assistant to the children's librarian. In 2003, the family moved from New York State to Rhode Island and Belinda joined Rocky Hill School as the third grade teacher.

Educational Philosophy

"I love to teach and to challenge myself to get the best out of each and everyone of my students. I introduce structure and organization into the student's daily lives, but have the flexibility to let them explore their strengths and weaknesses as they become more responsible and independent. I bring into the classroom my experiences and breadth of knowledge from my European background. Most of all, learning should be fun, with lots of hands on experiences. "

Interests, Activities and Plans

Belinda enjoys traveling, reading, drinking tea, cooking vegetarian delights, gardening, knitting, quilting, swimming, marathon running (London 1994, 1998, New York 1995) and recently, crafting fabric chickens (see photo below).

On a Personal Note

"I have been visiting the USA on a yearly basis since 1980 when my brother and his wife moved to the US because of their jobs. Little did I know that after I married in 1998, my husband's job would transfer us within a 40-minute drive of my brother's family! I live in the far North West corner of Rhode Island with my husband Rob and our three cats. He is an engineer in Franklin , MA . "
