I
worked in computer programming, specifically in data bases and
statistical software for ten years and then I stayed home with my
children for ten years. During that time I did
quite a bit of volunteer work including Meals on Wheels, tutoring,
Greenwich Bay Women's Club (Member of the Year), Girl Scouts (troop
leader), Cub Scouts (den leader) and the Frenchtown School
PTL, of which I was president. After receiving my certification,
I worked in a public school for one year and then came to RHS.
I
wear two hats at RHS, thus I have two goals for my students.
As a mathematics teacher, I want every student to get as much
out of my class as possible. The tools we have at Rocky
Hill School really make that possible. The small class
size allows for more individual attention. Calculators,
computers and other technology allow students to stretch their
ability and the Harkness method ensures that every student is
involved and discovers meaning in what we do.
My
other role at RHS is the Community Service Coordinator.
We have our students read outstanding literature, to encourage
them to become lifelong readers. I hope that when students
participate in community service, they will continue to serve
and help others throughout their lives in addition to gaining
insight on how truly lucky they are.
