Background

Erica most recently worked as a Middle School Math and Science Teacher at Atlantic Leadership Academy in Boston, Massachusetts. At the academy, school was held on the schooner Roseway and the Nantucket Lightship and classes were taught around a table, on deck and throughout Boston. Erica enjoyed sharing the hands-on learning opportunities available, including building a Greenland Kayak (skin-on-frame) and an overnight sailing trip.

Prior to entering teaching, Erica was also a part of the EDGE Corps Staff with The Navigators (Christian College Ministry) at the University of South Carolina where she built mentoring relationships with students and led group activities and events.

Previously, Erica was a mechanical engineer at Raytheon Company in El Segundo and Santa Barbara, California.


Interests, Activities and Plans

Volunteer Activities:

•  The Boston Project , Dorchester, MA

•  Habitat for Humanity style work, including construction, yard work, painting, drywall, etc.

•  Soup kitchen volunteering and work with the homeless in Boston

•  Summer camp counseling

•  College ministry

Other Interests:

Erica enjoys sailing, rowing, kayaking, SCUBA diving, (really anything in or on the water!), animals, traveling, building & fixing things, ultimate frisbee, soccer, sports in general, rock climbing, hiking, drawing, photography, reading, singing, and music.
