Community Service Effort to Benefit Local Charities
Inspired by a student’s original idea, Rocky Hill School is uniting to provide holiday cheer to local organizations that support children in need.

Lower, Middle and Upper School students (and their families), along with faculty and staff, are helping children in Rhode Island who are less fortunate by collecting items that a child or teen would need and enjoy such as socks, gift cards, toys and more. The goal is to fill approximately 300 small boxes with the collected items, which in some cases, will be the only gift received by a needy recipient this year.

The project was conceived by senior Katherine Meringolo, a member of the Upper School Community Service Club.  Thanks in part to a generous donation from Rocky Hill parent Jason Krikorian and Mars Plastics, the idea was brought to reality and implemented across all grades.

Students of all ages have embraced the project full-force and the Middle School Student Council and Upper School Community Service Club have even added to the project by fundraising on their own to supply additional items to fill the boxes.

The school will deliver the finished boxes to Crossroads Rhode Island and Communities for People on Tuesday, December 20.  The efforts of the entire Rocky Hill School community will be on display at the annual Winter Solstice student celebration on Friday, December 16.
