| back | | Rocky Hill School Wins American Heart Association Award | | | The American Heart Association recently awarded Rocky Hill School with 2010-2011 First Place Award for Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart Schools in Rhode Island for its participation in the combo event program.
Jump Rope For Heart is an American Heart Association program implemented in schools throughout the country where kids learn jump rope skills, how their hearts work and raise money to help kids with special hearts. Hoops For Heart is a similar fundraising program where kids learn basketball skills and how their hearts work.
Donna Tringali, youth market director for the state of Rhode Island at the American Heart Association said she was impressed at how well the school did and how much the parents and students understand about why these events are important and how important it is to help others who have heart disease.
The award was presented at the Rhode Island Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (RIAHERD) business meeting held at the University of Rhode Island last month.
As part of the Jump Rope for and Hoops for Heart programs, Rocky Hill Lower School and Middle School students raised a total of $4,800 to help fund vital research and educational programs for the American Heart Association to help prevent, manage and beat heart disease and stroke.
Rocky Hill School coordinators for these events and accepting the award on the School’s behalf were physical education and health teachers Traci Rainone and Sue Wood. | | back | |
