Historical Timeline    
1934   
A local preschool is formed, which is the genesis for Rocky Hill Day School 
   
1935
Dorothy Marshall moves the preschool to Lucius Eldredge homestead on Division Street and is named Rocky Hill after the area 
   
1937
1st official schoolhouse is constructed for preschool – grade 3 and is financed by Garry C. House
 
1941  
Nathan and Lillian Hale purchase Rocky Hill Day School for $5,000 and add Country to the name
 
1945  
Rocky Hill Country Day School (RHCDS) graduates its first ninth grade class
   
1948
RHCDS moves 245 students to Hopelands after major renovations – school is incorporated as a non-profit
 
1954  
Hurricane Carol strikes just prior to the opening of school – clean-up was a community effort
   
1956
Perkins Hall is the first new building constructed on campus and is named after Rose Perkins Hale, Nathan’s mother
 
1959
Gibson Hall is built – Rocky Hill Summer Camp continues to financially support the school – Mr. Hale purchases JAF dinghies for sailing program 
 
1962
Hales retire and Robert C. Smith becomes Headmaster – uniforms, yearbook and the alma mater are established
 
1967
First 12th grade graduating class
 
1968
Newly hired Headmaster Hugh Campbell moves to Annandale with five daughters and his wife, Lorli von Trappe
 
1970
Construction of Sharpe Gymnasium – Rocky Hill School establishes first official girls’ athletic team
 
1973
Carriage House is converted into a library and arts center – fire strikes loft science building
 
1975
Alan Flynn is hired as the new Headmaster – Head’s house is constructed for Flynn family
 
1979
Construction of Campbell Center named in honor of Hugh D. Campbell
 
1984
Rocky Hill School celebrates its 50th birthday
 
1986
Construction of Hale Science Center named in honor of Nathan and Lillian Hale
 
1991
R. Leith Herrmann is hired as Headmaster – Tennis and Field Hockey teams are state champions
 
1994
Rocky Hill School boasts SENE championship teams for Boys’ Soccer, Basketball and Lacrosse
 
1995
James J. Young III ‘70 is the first Rocky Hill School alumnus to be hired as Headmaster
 
1998
Fiber optic cable is installed on campus – Field Hockey team wins state championship – Mural
Restoration is completed in Hopelands
 
2001
First laptop classroom created – Allie’s Playground is dedicated – sailing program is revived
 
2004
Opening of Alan F. Flynn, Jr. Academic Center – RHS Model is formalized – Student laptop program begins
 
2010
Rocky Hill School celebrates 75 years 
 
2011
Jonathan M. Schoenwald, Ph.D. is installed as the eighth Head of School
