Latin Students Take Part in Virgil Vigil

On Saturday, April 30th, from 8 PM to 8 AM Sunday morning, Rocky Hill School Latin students read twelve books in twelve hours in The Flynn Academic Center Faculty Reading Lounge.

Matthew Gnolfo, Chair of the Foreign Language Department and Upper School Latin Teacher ran a proper Virgil Vigil during which time some of the Upper School Latin students and he read the 12 books of the “Aeneid” in 12 hours.  The premise of this particular event was to read aloud (in translation) the 12 books of the epic poem, the “Aeneid” (detailing the mythological founding of Rome) in 12 hours (a book an hour).  They raised funds via a dress down day and sent those funds to the Global Literacy Foundation (http://globalliteracy.org ).  (Hamilton College did something similar to this in their hosting of the “Milton Marathon” in which they read Paradise Lost in 12 hours.)
