POTOWOMUT ESTUARY
Running along the Rocky Hill School campus, the Potowomut River connects the Hunt River drainage system with the Bay. Estuaries are zones where salt water meets fresh, and with this in mind, the 7th grade will conduct a chemical survey of the river, from its mouth to the waterfall at Forge Road. These tests will be conducted by canoe and also along the shore. The students will survey the various vertebrates and invertebrates of the estuary to form a baseline of data which could be used as a health check for years to come. The 7th grade week will also include a canoe trip down the Narrows River in Narragansett, Project Adventure style games and initiatives, and an overnight camp-out on the beach.
