Lower School and Middle School celebrate Earth Day! The theme of this year's Earth Day was One Earth One People. Our goal was to help raise awareness and appreciation of our magnificent campus location and our need to preserve and respect the environment which is under our care. Thursday afternoon's festivities began with a gathering of Lower School and Middle School students and teachers on the front lawn of Hopelands where Mr. Heath, LS science teacher, introduced our day's events. The entire group then proceeded to hike the entire coastline of our campus, up the Greene River to Narragansett Bay stopping along the way for observation and journal writing. Our entire group was divided into several multi-aged teams which allowed our older students the chance to guide and interact with their younger schoolmates. Wet feet, sunburned faces and tired legs did not stop the enthusiastic reviews from students and teachers at the end of the day!

The Lower School Spring Breakfast occurred bright and early on April 22nd as approximately 200 students and families welcomed in spring at Rocky Hill. Many thanks to our parent coordinators for this event, Mrs. Paula Iannotti (Rachel's mom) and Mrs. Jane Ellisen (Hannah and Louise's mom) and to ARAMARK Food Services who provided the delicious breakfast.

Thank you also to everyone who contributed to the successful Project Undercover community service project. Our school was able to donate a large box of underwear, socks and diapers for needy children in Rhode Island.

Lower School parents - don't miss out. On Tuesday, April 27th at 9:00 AM, we will hold the annual Spring Concert. This is an opportunity for our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade and Middle School students who participate in instrumental and choral programs to present their talents. The concert will be held in the Campbell Center.

Make way for the PRESCHOOL! Our PreSchool classes are planning a Make Way for Ducklings Parade on Thursday, April 29th at approximately 11:00 AM.

Grade 1 students will travel to Veteran's Auditorium on Friday, April 30, to attend a children's concert by the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. This is a dress up event for these students who will leave campus at 8:30 and will return by 12:30.

Did you know… Students in Grades 3-5 have been reading Come Morning, a tale of the Underground Railroad written through the eyes of a young boy. The author of this piece of historical fiction is Leslie Guccione who will be visiting the Lower School on Monday, April 26. Mrs. Guccione will share with Lower School students her work as an author and, along with classroom teachers, will conduct writing workshops with the older children. In addition to being an accomplished author, Mrs. Guccione is the proud mother of Miss Amy Guccione, Middle School art teacher and sailing coach!

Calling all Seamstresses and carpenters! The plans for this year's Lower School musical, Annie, are well underway but we are in need of parents who would be willing to help with costumes and set design. Seamstresses are needed to create simple jumpers (pinafores) for some of the characters. Instructions will be provided. We also need help with the construction of simple wooden cubes for the set. Please contact Mrs. Trixie Dumas, art teacher, or Mrs. O, if you can help. Many thanks. The play is sure to be a hit!

Mark you calendar. Springtime begins many wonderful events that are not to be missed:
