I personally thought the experience was something I would remember. There was laughter and fun in the air. We learned about drugs and what the harmful effects were to us.
We understood what to do when we had peer pressure to do something wrong and when someone was offering a drug to us. We knew that doing the right thing doesn't resort to violence. There are easier ways to become tough without hurting someone. There also are ways to say no. Here are three: 1. Say "no;" 2. Keep on repeating "no;" and 3. Cold shoulder (ignore the person).
Many other things in D.A.R.E. will help us keep on the right path and the path of life. We were always eager to see what would happen next during D.A.R.E. but the education didn't matter as much as the fun we had during D.A.R.E.
Almost any boy in the class liked to see the bullet proof vest, the magazine clips and the pepper spray of Officer Mayor.
We learned about the four types of peer pressure. They are:
We all demonstrated in front of the class what each peer pressure was like. We really didn't talk about it; we felt what it was like. That's what counts.
Where there would be grumpiness instead there were smiles. We didn't just say "Oh yeah, D.A.R.E. is great." Instead we said "Wow, you should have seen what we did in D.A.R.E.!" Our teacher, Officer Mayor, was very enthusiastic and fun to be near. He was strong and straightforward about things that made us become a team. If we had not become a team then we wouldn't have done any good in D.A.R.E.
You would probably think that learning isn't all that fun, but really if you do things right you will succeed.
Now because of what we learned in D.A.R.E. we will
be able to stay drug-free and help our friends stay drug-free too. We
are now knowledgeable about these things and what is right and what
is wrong. There is only one thing that Officer Mayor has to say. It
is now up to us to make the right decision by ourselves. For we now
hold the key. If we lose it, we probably won't find it and escape
from the castle, but if we hold on even when everybody has turned
against us we will succeed.
